Congressman shamelessly compares Notre Dame fire to Trump presidency

While many were still dealing with the Notre Dame Cathedral fire, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) appeared on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” and used the tragedy to shamelessly promote himself and attack President Donald Trump.

Cohen was on the show to discuss the release of the Mueller Report.

“What he [Trump] has done to the Constitution and the rule of law is as bad as that fire did to Notre Dame,” Cohen said. “He’s torching the entire structure of government and the people’s respect for it. And the Congress needs to act.”

What’s most appalling about these comments is the fact that Cohen in no way needs to reference the Notre Dame Cathedral fire. He actually goes out of his way to use the ongoing disaster as a way to promote his lame leftist politics.

You can check out the clip of Cohen’s comments below:

The Notre Dame Cathedral stood for over 850 years. The fire has been officially declared as an accident, though some have speculated whether it could have been started on purpose in order to send a message during Holy Week.

This is not the first time Cohen has made extreme statements about the president. He previously called Trump a “cancer on the country” in an appearance on MSNBC last month.

In his recent Chris Matthews appearance, he said he believes there is a case for “obstruction” against Trump that Congress needs to make.

Despite his history of extremist statements, it’s still rather shocking to see Cohen use the Notre Dame tragedy for his own personal benefit. He has shown that the president’s most devoted critics truly do hit a new moral low each and every day that Trump is in office.

On a more positive note, not everyone is using the Notre Dame tragedy as a platform to suggest the president should be impeached. Many are actually showing goodwill during this trying time.

Donations to rebuild the Notre Dame Cathedral have reached over $500 million.

Bernard Arnault of LVMH — a company that owns Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Givenchy — promised $226 million on Tuesday to help rebuild the cathedral.

François-Henri Pinault, the Chairman and CEO of Kering — which owns Gucci, Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent — also promised $110 million to the reconstruction effort.

Total, a French oil and gas company, has promised $113 million.

Capgemini, a consulting firm, will donate $1.1 million.

The city of Paris will also be putting up nearly $60 million as well.

Cohen has not followed up his disgusting Notre Dame comments with an apology or explanation. Don’t worry though. He’s been tweeting about the president plenty.

“Trump hired Barr to bury this investigation. That’s why we’re getting a heavily redacted report the night before the start of Easter & Passover. Trump’s whole life has been a series of shady deals, & he doesn’t want the truth to get out,” the congressman tweeted out shortly after his appearance on “Hardball.” The tweet was accompanied with an image of him on the MSNBC program.

If anyone ever asks you what exactly Trump Derangement Syndrome is, show them Steve Cohen.
