The Justice Department announced Monday that a much anticipated redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report will be released to the public Thursday morning and social media lit up.
Beginning with President Donald Trump.
The president took to Twitter shortly after the announcement was made to remind the American people that those behind the report are “Trump haters” who should’ve been focused on those who spied on his 2016 campaign.
The president again called the Russian probe a “hoax,” which proved to be accurate, given that Mueller found no evidence of collusion and indicted no one on the claim that prompted his investigation.
“The Mueller Report, which was written by 18 Angry Democrats who also happen to be Trump Haters (and Clinton Supporters), should have focused on the people who SPIED on my 2016 Campaign, and others who fabricated the whole Russia Hoax. That is, never forget, the crime….,” Trump tweeted.
“….Since there was no Collusion, why was there an Investigation in the first place! Answer – Dirty Cops, Dems and Crooked Hillary!” he added in a second tweet.
In addition to there being no proof of collusion, Attorney General William Barr said in a letter to congressional leaders, after receiving Mueller’s report, “that the evidence developed during the Special Counsel investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.”
As for the “crime” the president referenced in his tweet, Barr testified under oath to Congress last week about spying on the Trump campaign, stating, “I believe it did occur.”
He also told senators on a Senate Appropriations Committee panel he has launched an informal inquiry of the origins of the Russia investigation, to better understand the decision process that let to the FBI opening a counterintelligence investigation of Trump’s campaign in the summer of 2016.
“I feel an obligation to make sure government power is not abused,” he told the panel. “I think that is one of the principal roles of the attorney general.”
