In spite of a long litany of offensive, discriminatory comments that extend not only since her 2018 election, but indeed from many years ago, Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar has now insisted that “I am as American as anyone else.”
Technically, if she is referring to her citizenship certificate, then OK–she’s right. She’s an officially naturalized citizen of the United States.
Omar was on CBS with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday after Brian Kilmeade on Fox News said about Omar, “You have to wonder if she’s an American first.” Obviously, Kilmeade was questioning whether her loyalties are ordered in a way that America is more important than other causes in her life.
When the left seized on his comment and tried to hang him with it as they did similarly with Jeanine Pirro, he tweeted that he had not intended to question whether she was an American. The context of the comment Kilmeade made was in fact a response to Omar’s remarks during a speech last month characterizing the 9/11 terrorist attacks as “some people did something.”
“Really? ‘Some people did something?’ You have to wonder if she is an American first,” Kilmeade said. “Can you imagine if she was representing your community, and you were in her district, how embarrassed you must feel today?”
“I took an oath to uphold the Constitution. I am as American as everyone else is,” Omar claimed on the Colbert show. Responding to Kilmeade’s comments, she called them “dangerous incitement, given the death threats I face.”
Obviously looking for sympathy … or maybe just more stirring of the pot … Omar has not made a lot of friends inside the beltway. Taking a long look in the mirror would be advised as well as keeping her mouth shut for a while to just listen to others. She probably has been given that advice …
She began her time with Colbert by saying that her time in Congress, and the controversy surrounding it, has been a “process of growth.” She also said, “When you tell me you are pained by something that I say, I will always listen and I will acknowledge your pain.”
I didn't intend to question whether Rep. Omar is an American – I am questioning how any American, let alone a United States Congresswoman, could downplay the 9/11 attacks.

The thing is, there are a lot of people on both sides of the aisle who are upset with Omar and specifically about her ongoing attacks on Israel and on people of the Jewish faith.
GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tweeted on Tuesday, “Ilhan Omar isn’t just anti-semitic — she’s anti-American.”
Ilhan Omar isn’t just anti-Semitic – she’s anti-American.
Nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives to Islamic terrorists on 9/11, yet Omar diminishes it as: “Some people did something.”
Democrat leaders need to condemn her brazen display of disrespect.https://t.co/k3meEbUOAk

In addition, Omar publicly took issue with her House colleague, Rep. Dan Crenshaw, Republican from Texas. He responded, denying that he called Omar “un-American” or called for violence against her.
1. I never called you un-American.
2. I did not incite any violence against you.
3. You described an act of terrorism on American soil that killed thousands of innocent lives as “some people did something.”
It’s still unbelievable, as is your response here. https://t.co/SsfWYepOS1

I’ll call her UNAMERICAN! She stands for Islam first! That’s just factual! Not sorry ?

She got caught plain and simple…..
Her words speak as loud as her actions and they don’t say “I love America”
