Fox News host Laura Ingraham opened her show on Tuesday night by poking fun at journalists tripping over themselves to heap praise on 37-year-old Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, whom she called “the new progressive ‘It’ boy.”
Ingraham had the most fun with New York Times columnist David Brooks, whom she said was in “full fan-boy mode” when he wrote a column about Buttigieg entitled, “Why You Love Mayor Pete.”

She quoted Brooks writing that Buttigieg, who is openly gay, “has conservative family values; it’s just that his spouse is a husband, not a wife.”
“As they did with Obama,” she told viewers, “the media is attempting to take a novice with limited experience, and wrap him up in a warm, fuzzy personal narrative.”
But it may not work.
Buttigieg is the mayor of South Bend, Ind. His father, according to a Washington Examiner article published Tuesday, was a literature professor at the University of Notre Dame who was one of a group of leftist professors whose aim was to introduce Marxist ideas into the mainstream of America. He also wrote an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education in 1998 praising the Communist Manifesto and was an adviser to an academic journal called Rethinking Marxism.
People are going to ask, Ingraham said, whether the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Pete Buttigieg announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president on Jan. 23, 2019. If elected, he would be the youngest president in U.S. history and the first openly gay American president. He is currently the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
The major media cannot seem to get enough of him, with CNN in particular pointing out that not only is he a presidential candidate, but he’s also a newlywed, having married his boyfriend Chasten in 2018.
But even so, the David Brooks column stands out, with the columnist calling the launch of Buttigieg’s campaign “the biggest star-is-born moment since Lady Gaga started singing ‘Shallow'” and writing that Buttigieg “eschews grand ideological conflict.”
“This reads like an ode to Obama,” Ingraham told her viewers on Tuesday night’s Ingraham Angle. “Didn’t he write the same exact thing about Obama?”
Ingraham said that in fact, Buttigieg is a “garden variety leftist” and ticked off his support for the Green New Deal, the so-called wealth tax, Medicare for all, abortion on demand, packing the Supreme Court by adding additional justices and getting rid of the electoral college.
Getting rid of the Electoral College, she said, “would upend the Constitution to ensure that California and New York trump the views of Heartland Indianans every time.”
She also pointed to Buttigieg’s position on abortion, and played a clip of the candidate on “Morning Joe” — where he was questioned by co-host and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough about the recent passage of bills in New York and Virginia legalizing abortion up to the moment of birth.
“I don’t think that we need more restrictions right now,” Buttigieg replied.
