CNN’s Christiane Amanpour remarkably asks Comey if FBI should have ‘shut down’ Trump supporters’ chants at rallies

A CNN “journalist” suggested Tuesday that the Trump supporters who playfully chanted “lock her up” at President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential election campaign rallies should have been apprehended and potentially thrown in the hole by the Justice Department.

Christiane Amanpour issued the suggestion while speaking with disgraced former FBI Director James Comey about the president’s calls for the investigators who investigated him to be investigated.

Watch the discussion below:

Because of a preponderance of evidence suggesting that the Russian collusion investigation was an illegal operation launched for political reasons, both the president and congressional Republicans have called for a second special counsel to investigate the Justice Department’s potential misconduct.

As one of those suspected of corruption, Comey opposes this move.

“Investigative what?” he defiantly declared to Amanpour early Tuesday afternoon. “Investigate that investigations were conducted? And what would be the crime you’d be investigating? So, it’s a terrible cycle to start. He’s already started it with calling for the locking up of his political opponents, including people like me. And so, it would just be more of that dangerous step.”

During the election then-GOP nominee Trump and his supporters called for then-Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton to be locked up for the crimes she had committed as secretary of state.

Here’s one example:

After the election’s conclusion, however, the president dropped the issue and revealed that he wasn’t actually interested in pursuing a criminal case after Clinton. This suggested that his “lock her up” chant had just been a playful jab designed to drum up support during a heated election.

What wasn’t just a playful job was the attempt made by the left to lock up the president and his family up over things they never did. What also wasn’t just a playful jab was Amanpour’s stunning suggestion to Comey that the folks who’d chanted “lock her up” should have been arrested.

“Of course, lock her up was a feature of the 2016 Trump campaign,” she said. “Do you, in retrospect, wish that people like yourself, the head of the FBI, I mean, the people in charge of law and order had shut down that language, that it was dangerous potentially, that it could have created violence, that kind of hate speech? Should that have been allowed?

What she said was so outrageous that even Comey took exception to it.

“That’s not a role for government to play,” he dutifully replied. “The beauty of this country is people can say what they want even if it’s misleading and its demagoguery. The people should have shut it down. We’re Republicans who understand the rule of law and the values that they claim to stand for, shame on them, but it wasn’t a role for government to play.”

He was right about it not being the role of government to incarcerate people for exercising their right to free speech. What’s unclear is what he finds “misleading” and demagogic about a playful chant that, to be fair, was backed by mountains of evidence, some of it uncovered by Comey himself.

But what’s far more disturbing than the former FBI director’s clear-cut sanctimony is the fervent willingness by Amanpour, a so-called objective “journalist,” to call for the punishment of dissidents who chant phrases or sayings that she finds offensive. And to be clear, that’s what so-called “hate speech” generally refers to: Content that some find offensive.

Keep in mind that to the far-left, of which Amanpour seems to be a proud member, practically every conservative idea or thought counts as hate speech, including the right’s otherwise reasonable views on illegal immigration, affirmative action, political correctness and identity politics.

Also note that, as mentioned earlier, Clinton did in fact commit crimes, ergo why the playful “lock her up” chants by Trump’s supporters had legitimacy to them, which raises this question: Why is it “hateful” to demand that a criminal be held to account for his or her behavior!?

While what the CNN “journalist” said was shocking, the fact that someone at the far-left network would espouse such a radical idea — one in direct violation of the First Amendment — isn’t shocking given CNN’s history of trying to silence and deplatform its political enemies.

As noted by social media users, this is simply what CNN does:

The latter user was right. The fake news disseminated by the media isn’t nearly as big of a threat to democracy as are the attempts by some in the media shut down those independent journalists with the courage and willingness to expose their lies and reveal the real truth.
