President Donald Trump dumped on The New York Times and The Washington Post on Friday for winning a Pulitzer Prize for their reporting on the delusion of collusion with Russian, saying the newspapers should be stripped of the award considering there was no collusion.
The slight comes after special counsel Robert Mueller wrapped up a two-year long investigation that cost taxpayers more than $30 million without a single indictment related to collusion.
“So funny that The New York Times & The Washington Post got a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage (100% NEGATIVE and FAKE!) of Collusion with Russia – And there was No Collusion!” Trump tweeted. “So, they were either duped or corrupt? In any event, their prizes should be taken away by the Committee!”

The national media was obsessed with the story for two years, force-feeding it down America’s throats in heaping spoonfuls on a nightly basis, with some going so far as to accuse the president of the United States of treason.
Attorney General William Barr said in his letter to Congress summarizing Mueller’s final report the Trump campaign did not conspire or coordinate with Russia “despite multiple offers from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist the Trump campaign,” USA Today reported — which suggests that the opportunity presented itself and the campaign rejected it. Not that this little tidbit is getting much attention.
As for Trump’s call for the Pulitzer Board to revoke the prizes awarded to The Times and The Post, how can you rebuke what is essentially a self-governing elitist industry for getting it wrong when they counter by saying they weren’t wrong because they say they weren’t wrong?
The Times responded to Trump’s tweet by pretty much saying just that.
“We’re proud of our Pulitzer-prize winning reporting on Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election. Every @nytimes article cited has proven accurate.”

The clever play on words not lost on all social media users:

The Post’s White House reporter Josh Dawsey also pushed back in a tweet of his own.
“Not a single prize-winning story had a substantive correction,” he said in response to Trump’s tweet.

The Pulitzer Board granted the awards “for deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect’s transition team and his eventual administration.”
So did The Times and The Post report all along that there was no collusion? That is was all a hoax?
Not by a long shot.
The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. called attention to the Pulitzer awards last week in responding to a tweet from The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway, tweeting there should be “a recall.”
They should convert those Pulitzer’s to #fakenews awards. How do you win a reporting award for reporting fake news? There should be a recall. Those Pulitzer’s were earned like Liz Warren’s tenure. https://t.co/5Bak6VTQ5G

Even though Trump Jr. stepped in it a bit when he responded to his father’s tweet to say, “He’s right… unless they give Pulitzer’s for fiction. #fakenews.”

It’s clear that Trump Jr. is talking about reporting, but his critics jumped on the fact that Pulitzers are awarded for works of fiction to ridicule him.
As for any chances of the Pulitzer Board rescinding the awards, keep in mind that this is the entity that awarded Barack Obama for… well, being Barack Obama.
Here are a few more reactions to the topic from Twitter:
Pulitzer Prize fraud related to Russia reporting for the @nytimes? Wouldn't be the first time. https://t.co/mqbUSTQ6P7 https://t.co/9we4SCKvzS

And we now know that story was #FakeNews..
Will I be nominated for 2019 Pulitzer for reporting the counter argument for the last 2 years?https://t.co/ArlhiKu17a— 🇺🇸ERIC BOLLING🇺🇸 (@ericbolling) March 25, 2019

The @nytimes @washingtonpost are the milli vanilli of “journalism” and the #pulitzer might as well be an mtv award. ? pic.twitter.com/UVfDqi55K8

Arrogance and hubris: flushing a once respected and prestigious award down the toilet, because you used it to prop up a once respected and prestigious newspaper that knowingly pushed a complete lie on the public for 2 years as part of a plot to remove an elected President. Nice!
