Fox News “Media Buzz” host Howard Kurtz led a panel discussion Sunday on media coverage of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s Russia investigation, which has finally concluded after almost two years and more than $30 million spent.
Mollie Hemingway, senior editor at The Federalist, eviscerated the media for pushing “an absolutely deranged conspiracy theory that held the country hostage for more than two years, saying the Mueller investigation outcome was “absolutely devastating” for their credibility, which may now be at an “apocalyptic” low point.
As biting as her assessment was, Hemingway was just getting warmed up, as she later blew former Hillary Clinton adviser Philippe Reines out of the water when he tried to run interference for the cabal behind the Russian collusion conspiracy theory.
In the event you have been under a rock since Sunday, Attorney General William Barr delivered the news to Congress that special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion investigation did not find evidence that President Trump or members of his campaign conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 election, nor did they find sufficient evidence that Trump obstructed justice.
The show was aired before this, but the DOJ had already said no other indictments would be forthcoming.
Hemingway was an early skeptic of the far-reaching claim of the Trump campaign conspiring with Russia to win the 2016 election. She described it on Sunday as “an information operation secretly funded by Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.”
“It’s almost difficult to describe what it was like to be a skeptic, particularly early on in January 2017 when this hysteria got going,” she said, when asked by Kurtz about what that was like.
Hemingway wasn’t the only one, of course, and she was complimentary of others who did the same, saying that “took a lot of courage.”
(She named Fox News’ Catherine Herridge, Kimberly Strassel at the Wall St. Journal and Chuck Ross at the Daily Caller, among others.)
“It sounds like we are doing a 25th anniversary oral history of what this time period was like,” Reines said. “Tomorrow, you could be talking about a narrative of hundreds of pages of the report saying ‘xyz,’ and no matter what the report says, you will say the exact same thing, you won’t give an inch that anything happened here.”
“I think it’s important to understand, Philippe, it’s over,” Hemingway shot back.
“You saying it on Fox doesn’t make it so,” Reines replied. “He’s under investigation by 17 other entities, including the Southern District of New York.”
This being more of the same from sore loser Democrats, who eschew the facts to create their own reality in the quest to defeat Trump in 2020, shifting their focus from claims of collusion to obstruction of justice.
Even here, Hemingway is on top of it.

Hemingway told Reines, “It is kind of important to just accept reality right now,” as she pointed out that the difference with the other investigations is “we weren’t fed a theory” about them like the American public was with the Mueller probe.
“We were told he was a traitor who colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election,” she said.
Social media was quick to judge Hemingway the clear winner in the exchange with the Hillary Clinton “hack.”
