The latest example of the dangers of unchecked illegal immigration as often expressed by President Donald Trump played out in Washington state earlier this week, even as the liberal media continues to insist that the president is inflating these risks.
Kittitas County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Thompson was fatally shot Tuesday night by a road rage suspect who was in the U.S. illegally, Fox News reported.
That suspect, Juan Manuel Flores Del Toro, 29, a Mexican citizen, entered the U.S. at Laredo, Texas, in April 2014 on a temporary agricultural worker visa and there are no records of him ever leaving, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement:
“Juan Manuel Flores Del Toro, a citizen of Mexico, was unlawfully present in the United States. He entered the U.S. on April 11, 2014 through a Laredo, Texas Land Port of Entry on a Temporary Agricultural Worker (H-2A) visa. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has no record of Flores Del Toro leaving the U.S., nor extending his visa after it expired.”
Flores Del Toro, who was later killed by officers who returned fire, also wounded an officer, Kittitas Police Officer Benito Chavez, after law enforcement tried to pull him over after a driving complaint.
Officer Chavez, 22, was airlifted to a Seattle hospital and was listed in satisfactory condition.
After a short pursuit, the illegal alien allegedly emerged from his vehicle with guns a’blazing, leading to the death of Deputy Thompson.
Another senseless death of an American citizen at the hands of a foreign national who should not have been in the country. A death that didn’t have to happen if only Congress would set aside politics and do its job to address our broken immigration system.
And Thompson’s wife and three children will pay a dear price for that failure.
The emotional moment the deputy’s body was taken to a local funeral home, escorted by a long line of law enforcement, was captured below by KHQ Local News.
Flores Del Toro, 29, was driving a car registered to someone else Tuesday night and police were notified that he had been driving erratically, The Seattle Times reported.
Ellensburg Police Department spokesman Capt. Dan Hansberry said there had been “limited contact” with the illegal alien in the past, but “nothing of real significance.”
He also said there were no warrants out for Flores Del Toro — police do not know why he tried to flee or why he opened fire.
The expired agriculture visa Flores Del Toro entered the U.S. on is known as the H-2A classification, which can be held up to three years, the newspaper reported, citing the ICE website. The visa holder is then required to leave “for an uninterrupted period of three months” before seeking reentry.
Yet, KOMO 4 TV reporter Joel Moreno opted to highlight a local resident saying the fact that the cop killer was here illegally was “less important to him.”
