Trump takes on Dem efforts to pack Supreme Court as part of new agenda to change rules, tip scales

Democrats continue to prove that if they can’t win fair and square, then they will go about changing the rules in their favor — which puts a new spin on “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

This approach is seen in their efforts to abolish the Electoral College, but Democrats also have their eyes set on expanding the Supreme Court to offset President Trump’s two nominations to the high court, which tipped the ideological balance to the right.

And Trump is not on board with that idea. Speaking from the Rose Garden Tuesday, the president called it for what it is and said packing the Supreme Court is not going to happen on his watch.

“I wouldn’t entertain that,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question about the Democrat’s efforts. “The only reason they are doing that, they want to catch up. So if they can’t catch up through the ballot box winning an election, they want to try a different way. No interest in it whatsoever.”

The president expressed confidence in his chances in 2020 when he added, “It won’t happen, I guarantee you, for six years.”

A number of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are open to the idea, to include Sens. Kamala Harris, of California, and Elizabeth Warren, of Massachusetts, as well as Robert Francis O’Rourke, aka Beto, the failed 2018 Senate candidate from Texas.

President Trump also spoke on the bias against conservatives on social media, saying something needs to be done.

“Well, we have to do something. I tell you, I have many, many millions of followers on Twitter, and it’s different than it used to be,” he said. “Things are happening. Names are taken off. People aren’t getting through… it seems to be if they’re conservative, if they’re Republicans, if they’re in a certain group, there’s discrimination. Big discrimination.”

Responding to the president’s rejection of expanding the Supreme Court, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who rejected Trump’s emergency declaration on the southern border, is looking to set the number in stone.

Taking to social media Tuesday,  Rubio announced he will introduce a constitutional amendment that would permanently restrict the number of Supreme Court justices to nine.

“We must prevent further destabilization of essential institutions,” he tweeted. “Court-packing is quickly becoming a litmus test for 2020 Democratic candidates. Therefore I will be introducing a constitutional amendment to keep the number of seats on #SCOTUS at 9.”

A constitution amendment has a very high threshold, which makes his effort more show than go, but at least he’s supporting his party’s president on this one.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson focused on the Democrats efforts to change the rules on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” falling back on the designs of our Founding Fathers to say the left is out to change our institutions and, if successful, “it’s nearly impossible to rebuild them.”

“For more than two centuries, this country has relied on our institutions — our brilliantly designed and remarkably durable institutions — to survive as an intact democracy,” Carlson said.

And while the U.S. has survived some stressful events over the course of time, the election of President Trump seems to be a tipping point for radical Democrats.

“Donald Trump’s election has convinced many on the left that our institutions no longer work,” Carlson said. “They must be torched and replaced by a system that will prevent Trump and anyone like Trump from ever being elected again. That’s their goal, and they’re starting with the judiciary.”

And abolishing the Electoral College, which is intended to protect small states and ensure equality, is part of the deal for the left, according to Carlson.

“Would the public still have trust in the court once it becomes an arm of the Democratic Party?” he said. “Well, the feeling among Democrats is ‘Who cares what they think?’ How people feel is not a concern for the Democratic Party right now. They want their power back now and forever, and that’s why we’re hearing calls to abolish the Electoral College.”
