Divided CNN panel of ‘conservatives’ get heated over Trump’s veto: ‘Don’t you dare patronize me on this!’

On Saturday, CNN pundits went at each other over President Trump’s first veto earlier in the week. Trump exercised his executive veto, rejecting the Senate’s vote to rescind the president’s National Emergency declaration at the border.

Twelve Republican Senators sided with Democrats and voted to block the national emergency. The president understandably expressed disappointment with those 12 who crossed over the aisle.

CNN host Fredricka Whitfield offered up Trump’s bold response: “They will get an earful from their constituents.”

Ben Ferguson, a conservative radio talk show host commented: “Some of them will, some of them won’t. Only one of the 12 who voted in this 12 is up for reelection, which is why many of them voted the way they did. I respect the positions of many of them.

“For instance, Marco Rubio said ‘I support the border wall. I also believe there’s a crisis at the border. But what I know is that precedent is everything in Congress. And I do not trust that another president down the road might abuse this power. I don’t see this so much as a rebuke as I do that people are coming at this from different perspectives.'”

Ferguson also indicated that all 12 of the GOP senators do believe there is an emergency at the border and that they believe addressing it should be done in a different way than a national emergency declaration.

Tara Setmayer, a former GOP communications director on Capitol Hill countered that she was very disappointed only 12 Republican senators voted to override the veto. Regarding the comments Trump made at his veto ceremony, she complained that he was very irresponsible with his words and used “demagogue rhetoric and fear mongering.”

Ferguson jumped in, “It’s not if you sit down with victims of crime on this issue.”

That set Setmayer off and the panelists proceeded to try to speak over each other, until the host regained control.

“Do not insult me with that, Ben! I dealt with that for many years! I wasn’t a radio host, I actually worked on Capitol Hill with this issue.”

In the crossfire, Ferguson was heard to say, “You haven’t sat down with these people!”

Setmayer shouted, “Don’t you dare patronize me on this!”

Emotions continued to rule and the debate went on with each struggling to be heard over the other.

Watch the whole “brawl” for yourself …

Note:  The veto appears to be safe from Congress overriding the veto, which requires a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate.
