Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., apparently believes if you laugh the world laughs with you, instead of at you.
The self-avowed democratic socialist was mentioned in a column by conservative Jane Chastain, who highlighted the “sharp left turn” taken by the Girl Scouts to ask why anyone would want to financially support the group by buying their famous cookies — sales come in around $800 million each season.
While Ocasio-Cortez may be a nitwit, she’s smart enough to know if she makes the story about her, not only does she get added notoriety, but she also distracts from a damning message.
So, with an assist from her media allies, she mocked the piece on Twitter, confident her low-information base will make no effort to look beyond her tweet.
Capturing a favorable headline claiming Chastain is calling for a boycott of Girl Scout cookies because the freshman lawmaker used to be a Girl Scout, she tweeted: “Boycotting cookies that teach little girls leadership skills to own the libs ?? nice job. I’ll take 10.”

Chastain wrote the piece to mark International Women’s Day, which was on Friday, and said that it “comes with a lot of baggage you may not want for your daughter or yourself” — that the annual event was started in 1909 by the Socialist Party of America chief among them, perhaps.
“Today’s Girl Scouts are a far cry from those of my youth, which trained us to put God and country before everything else,” she wrote. “Today, God in the Girl Scout promise has an asterisk, meaning the great I AM and His moral absolutes can be replaced by anything, including oneself.”
Chastain, who was once a Girl Scout and even sold cookies, said that “country” has also taken a backseat in the organization to an emphasis on global citizenship.
“In fact, the Girl Scouts are celebrating the victory won by their alums in the 2018 midterms on its website, beginning with their star, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who attributes much of her success to what she learned as part of this organization,” she wrote.
After noting that “Girl Scout alums make up 72 percent of female senators and 60 percent of the women in the 116th Congress,” Chastain included a telling stat, that being that among the freshmen lawmakers, West Virginia Rep. Carol Miller is the only Republican — and she is 68 years old.
“Her training in scouting was well before the feminist takeover that occurred in 1970,” Chastain said of Miller.
She also shared that there’s a good scouting alternative, the American Heritage Girls.
“Before you decide to embrace an International Women’s Day celebration or buy the cookies, ask yourself, ‘Will the country be better off with more representatives like the young socialist Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez?’” Chastain then asked.
As for how far the left the group has become, it was reported this month that the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona honored a scout for her volunteer work on “reproductive health justice,” according to LifeNews.
The girl scout said her goal was to “educate people about and destigmatize access to women’s healthcare” — which is code for abortion.
A number of Girl Scout councils have partnered with Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in America.
