Lemon says Smollett already lost in ‘court of public opinion’; frets Tucker, Hannity & Trump will ‘eat his lunch’

After liberal CNN host Don Lemon learned Wednesday that Hollywood actor Jussie Smollett faces felony charges over the hate crime hoax he perpetrated, the host threw a brief pity party lamenting over how the actor’s downfall will allegedly benefit conservatives.

“Sean Hannity’s going to eat Jussie Smollett’s lunch every single second. Tucker Carlson is going to eat Jussie Smollett’s lunch every single second. The president of the United States is going to eat his lunch. And who does the president of the United States watch every night? Cable news,” he kvetched.

Unlike Lemon, both of his counterparts at Fox News readily identify as conservative commentators, not unbiased, objective journalists. Moreover, Hannity, Carlson and the president have a right to eat Smollett’s lunch because the actor tried to smear all Trump-supporting conservatives as racist, homophobic monsters.

And just like every other hate crime hoax that’s been perpetrated in an attempt to smear conservatives, Smollett’s alleged hate crime attack has been shown to have been nothing but a lie.

Listen to Lemon’s complaints below:

While the host didn’t say as much, it stands to reason that he’s also terrified that conservatives such as Hannity, Carlson and the president may also try to eat his lunch.

Every time someone has reported a hate crime allegedly committed by Trump supporters, the media have rushed to gin up the crime so as to strengthen their argument that the president and his supporters are racists, sexists,  homophobes, Islamophobes, white supremacists, you name it.

Lemon himself admitted last May, that he feels as if it’s his obligation to remind the American people every day that the president is a racist, never mind the lack of any convincing evidence — and never mind the fact that nearly all Trump-related hate crimes have turned out to be hoaxes.

What’s startling is that so many on the left appear strangely upset that Smollett’s claims of being assaulted by two white Trump supporters is being revealed as a complete lie.

In fact, an editorial board assistant with The Washington Post admitted in a column earlier this week that she wishes Smollett’s story was true — that two racist, homophobic Trump supporters had indeed assaulted him, poured bleach on him and placed a noose around his neck, all while allegedly yelling racial and homophobic slurs and shouting, “This is MAGA country!”

Why does editorial assistant Nana Efua Mumford feel this way? For the same reason as Lemon. She doesn’t want conservatives to benefit, even if that “benefit” entails nothing more than conservatives finally being offered the benefit of the doubt every time they’re accused of committing a hate crime.

“The incident would be touted as proof that there is a leftist conspiracy to cast Trump supporters as violent, murderous racists. It would be the very embodiment of ‘fake news,'” she wrote.

And there it is. It’s all about keeping the false narrative alive that the president and his supporters are racists, sexists,  homophobes, Islamophobes, white supremacists, etc.

What’s ironic is that Lemon and his friends are now concerned that a new false narrative may emerge — one that paints all alleged hate crime victims as liars and hoaxers.

Lemon lamented over the fact that Smollett already lost in the ‘court of public opinion.’

“I think the story’s very troubling. I think [Jussie’s] in a world of hurt notwithstanding the presumption of innocence, and I think this is not something we needed as a country right now. I think it diverted resources. Are we going to think twice next time someone says anything?” guest Joey Jackson, a New York City defense attorney, lamented Wednesday on “CNN Tonight.”

“I hope not. He is one person, one case. I hope not,” guest Midwin Charles, also an attorney, chimed in.

“Can we be honest?” Lemon then said. “To certain groups of people, even if they were skeptical, they said, I hope this is not black folks, gay folks, you know …”

“Of course. And you know why black folk and gay folk say that, because there are real victims of homophobia and of racism, but also because unfortunately we tend to all be painted with the same brush when one person does wrong. And that’s why we always say that when something goes wrong, is we hope the person is not we hope the person is not gay,” Charles said, finishing Lemon’s thought.

Apparently, they don’t like it when all people of a certain stripe are judged by the bad actions of a few rotten apples. Guess who else feels that way. Trump supporters …

Case in point:

Will the media learn a lesson from this? Probably not. In fact, during the same discussion Wednesday evening on “CNN Tonight,” Lemon defended Smollett.

“In the court of public of opinion, Jussie has lost. He has lost in the court of public opinion and that’s where his battle is, legally if he has to go whatever he has to serve, if it’s jail time, if he has to do probation, if he has to pay whatever, but in the court of public opinion, it matters,” Lemon said.

“And he lost that because of how, and not his fault, maybe people were, I don’t know what they were saying to him, maybe because of his representatives. Who knows? But it was handled poorly.”
