A privately owned U.S. Border Patrol museum near El Paso, Texas, was overrun by radical left-wing protesters over the weekend, who went so far as to deface photos of fallen agents to show their contempt for the agency.
Staff and guests feared for their safety when a group of about 50 protesters stormed the museum and refused to leave, director David Ham told the Washington Examiner.
“Say it loud, say it clear, Border Patrol kills!” the activists chanted.
The group, which calls itself Tornillo: The Occupation, livestreamed the protest.
The caption accompanying the feed read: “Reclaiming the border patrol museum and exposing the true violence of borders and border patrol.”
“We are here at the Border Patrol museum and what we did: we reclaimed their false narrative and put the truth,” a woman said in the video. “Let them know that Border Patrol kills. There shouldn’t be a museum for genocide.”
The radicals were seen on security cameras putting on face masks in the parking lot before going inside, according to The Examiner.
“That was really intimidating to our staff, plus their kind of aggressive attitude,” said Ham.
The 31-year veteran of the Border Patrol was not at the facility at the time, but got a call from a staffer.
“We have cameras, and we saw them gathering in the parking lot,” Ham explained. “We saw them come in the museum, and she had called 911. I was able to watch the cameras on my cellphone. They came in after putting masks on.”
“They proceeded to set up a bunch of signs and just went all over the museum,” he continued. “They of course had an agenda, they were chanting and singing songs, and then a couple of them got on a bullhorn.”
KVIA ABC 7 videotaped some of the damage done at the museum, reporting online that the protesters “badly damaged the museums memorial wall of fallen officers & other exhibits.”

Ham also said the protesters targeted museum visitors, who were eventually led to the back of the gift shop by staff to hide until police arrived.
“We had visitors in the museum. They started talking and kind of harassing them. Of course the staff was asking [the protesters] to leave, and they wouldn’t leave,” he said.
Once outside, some activists reportedly began chanting, “F–k your walls, f–k your borders, we won’t take your f–king orders.”
The Border Patrol Museum opened in its current location in 1994 and is a non-profit facility that receives no federal funding, although it is on federal land.
Photos of the fallen agents being defaced where shared online by Border Patrol agent Jason Owens.
“Yesterday, masked protestors “occupied & reclaimed” (whatever that means) the
#BorderPatrol museum (non-profit entity run by volunteers) & defaced our fallen agent memorial (a very sacred monument). I’ll let you draw your own conclusions about the hypocrisy of their actions…,” he tweeted.
