‘What a joke you are!’ Don Lemon leads panel off the rails after calling border authorities liars

White House

A CNN panel played out exactly as you would expect it to Friday, given that anchor Don Lemon was the moderator.

Following the same tired script, a Trump supporter is outnumbered by rabid Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers, as was seen Friday when former Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes went up against Lemon and “Republican” strategist Rick Wilson in a discussion on President Trump declaring a national emergency to address the crisis on the southern border,

Wilson is part of the insane clown posse of alleged Republicans who’ve discovered a lucrative career appearing on CNN and MSNBC as voices on the right who oppose all things Trump.

The problem for Wilson — his shtick is showing off his intellect while engaging in endless juvenile insults, like a petulant middle schooler — is he forgot which side of the aisle he’s on. Having failed to draw a coveted response from the president with his relentless attacks, Wilson has taken to insulting Trump’s Republican supporters. The irony here is the sell-out claims his opposition to Donald Trump is principle based.

True to form, Wilson regurgitated Democratic Party talking points on Friday, saying that the president “made up a crisis on the border, a crisis that doesn’t exist, that no rational person believes exists except for Donald Trump and a handful of his toadies.”

Cortez countered to say U.S. Customs and Border Protection “tells us there’s a crisis,” also naming Angel Families, a group representing loved ones killed by illegal aliens.

“The numbers just don’t bear it out, that there is a crisis at the border,” Lemon calmly states. “The facts just don’t bear it out.”

In effect, he called the CBP liars — never mind that the crime statistics alone of those in the country illegally are staggering, not to mention billions of dollars drained from the public treasury.

They go back and forth over what constitutes a crisis, with Cortes noting that 1,300 people a day cross into the US illegally, many of these people being families coming from Central America, which leaves the government in custody of thousands of children.

“That’s is a crisis,” Cortes said.

The discussion moved to the spending bill Trump signed to keep government open and Cortes, who did not support it, said Trump was “ill-served” by Republicans who negotiated the deal.

“Donald Trump was offered $25 billion for a wall in exchange for a DACA deal and he blew it,” Wilson said. “He’s the worst negotiator in history… He hates brown people and Stephen Miller hates brown people so much that they couldn’t bring themselves to do it.”

Slate’s Jim Newell reported in March that Democrats offered a deal that would “give Trump his full $25 billion wall funding request” if he accepted “a 10- to 14-year path to citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants brought to the United States at a young age.”

If there was any value in the segment, it came when Cortes called a spade a spade while pointing out that this is what the left does when they don’t want to talk policy.

As Wilson began to protest, he told his antagonist, “Spare me that you’re not a leftist because you’re a leftist, okay?”

“Oh, Steve, what a joke you are!” the middle-schooler shot back.
