Socialist congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her cohort, Sen. Ed Markey, are so confident in their so-called “Green New Deal” that they’ve taken offense to Senate Majority Mitch McConnell taking the plan seriously (*cough*) and scheduling it for an official vote …
Confused? You’re not the only one.
Look:
Don’t let Mitch McConnell fool you: this is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the movement we are building. He wants to silence your voice so Republicans don’t have to explain why they are climate change deniers. McConnell wants this to be the end, this is just the beginning. https://t.co/GUxJ5HG2jb
— Ed Markey (@SenMarkey) February 12, 2019
This isn’t a new Republican trick. By rushing a vote on the #GreenNewDeal resolution, Republicans want to avoid a true national debate & kill our efforts to organize. We’re having the first national conversation on climate change in a decade. We can’t let Republicans sabotage it.
— Ed Markey (@SenMarkey) February 12, 2019
Climate Change is an existential threat to humanity and our way of life. We have put forward our plan to save global humanity & Mitch McConnell is sabotaging it by putting it to a vote publish tweet https://t.co/9gMeE3Bu4B
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) February 13, 2019
Just to be clear, conservative commentator Stephen Miller was being sarcastic.
Markey’s complaints were posted a couple hours after McConnell announced his intentions.
“I’ve noted with great interest the Green New Deal. And we’re going to be voting on that in the Senate. Give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the #GreenNewDeal,” he said during a presser held around 2:30 pm Tuesday afternoon.
While there’s some speculation that McConnell is merely “trolling” Ocasio-Cortez and Markey, it doesn’t matter. If the two genuinely believe that the implementation of their radical plan is necessary to prevent humanity from being destroyed by so-called man-made climate change, then why would they be opposed to it being brought up for a vote?
Might it be because they know deep inside their hearts that their plan is clinically insane?
Released last Thursday, the plan calls for outlawing air travel, combustion-engine vehicles, nuclear energy, fossil fuel energy, meat and farting cows — as well as guarantying everybody a job (assuming they want one), in addition to free education, free healthcare, free housing, etc.
Rolling out the plan would require a total and unequivocal government takeover — or what AOC would rather call “government intervention.” It’d likewise cost an estimated 8,000 times more than it’d take for President Donald Trump to secure the southern U.S. border.
The deal is so outrageous that even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismissed it as a “Green New Dream” and snubbed AOC by not assigning her to serve on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
As crazy as plan is, AOC and Markey nevertheless released it as a serious proposal.
In fact, since releasing the plan Ocasio-Cortez has posted numerous tweets defending it:
When your #GreenNewDeal legislation is so strong that the GOP has to resort to circulating false versions, but the real one nets 70 House cosponsors on Day 1 and all Dem presidential candidates sign on anyway https://t.co/BbHIn8cu0f
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 8, 2019
Ah yes, a man who can’t even read briefings written in full sentences is providing literary criticism of a House Resolution.
(“Reading the intelligence book is not Trump’s preferred ‘style of learning,’ according to a person with knowledge of the situation.”
– @washingtonpost) https://t.co/O7daeYlXZO— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 12, 2019
For far too long, ideas like a carbon tax or cap-and-trade were touted as the premier solutions to climate change.
While those things could be *part* of a solution, the GND resolution says they are inadequate as the whole answer.
The pipes in Flint weren’t a “market failure.”
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 10, 2019
Finally, the reason we scope out with a resolution is bc I am not here to say that only one member of Congress will solve a global crisis.
Think of the GND Res as a “Request for Proposals.”
We’ve defined the scope and where we want to go. Now let’s assess + collab on projects.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 10, 2019
She even complained about the Senate refusing to take her bill seriously:
Quick Correction: intro’d House instead of passed (yet!)
Senate GOP still speaking out against it
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 11, 2019
Yet now that the Senate is taking her plan somewhat seriously, her cohort is complaining.
All this being said, what’s the real reason McConnell wants to vote on the “Green New Deal?”
It’s to force Democrats go on the record — just like Sen. Ben Sasse did last week vis-à-vis infanticide — and admit whether they support AOC’s radicalism, according to Sen. Lindsey Graham:
Let’s vote on the Green New Deal!
Americans deserve to see what kind of solutions far-left Democrats are offering to deal with climate change. https://t.co/VKTIyfnDCY
— Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) February 8, 2019
Plus, the idea of Congress being forced to vote on the “Green New Deal” is hilariously “awesome,” according to social media users:
Love this. Rush just confirmed that “The Turtle” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will allow the Senate to vote on the Green New Deal. AWESOME.

Lmfao @senatemajldr is forcing a vote on the #GreenNewDeal in the senate and that’s going to be hilarious to watch. Divide and conquer amirite? ??#MAGA #KAG2020
— DeplorableAF ?????? (@NYC_Deplorable8) February 12, 2019
I think it’s hilarious that senate Democrats are mad that @senatemajldr is putting a vote out for the green new deal that THEY wrote! Lmao!!

Dude is the definition of a troll. Hilarious. Never change @senatemajldr
Gotta love that green tie— David Tripp (@SolidOrangeDave) February 13, 2019
This should be hilarious. Once this goes down in flames hopefully the freshman Democrats stop trying to write legislation for a while. Go have a seat…right over there. For the rest of your term. And do nothing.
— DigintheCrates (@ChiSportsHomer) February 12, 2019
Hilarious! Cannot wait to see the floor debate on that one. ???????
— LizSoprano (@CovfefeKAG) February 12, 2019
Cocaine Mitch, for the win.
— Sistro Mondain (@SistroMondain) February 13, 2019
Cocaine Mitch for the win indeed!
