‘Makes perfect sense’! CNN pounded for new commentator hire – Fla Dem facing serious ethics investigation

Sometimes you get the feeling CNN isn’t even trying to feign legitimacy anymore.

It’s not like Florida officials didn’t just find probable cause that former Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum violated state ethics laws.

Four days removed from the Florida Ethics Commission finding probable cause on five out of six counts, CNN hired Gillum as a political commentator, leaving skeptics to wonder how long the wait will be before the Democrat is lecturing the opposition on ethics.

CNN’s Brian Stelter took to Twitter to announce that the man who lost to Republican Ron DeSantis in the Florida gubernatorial election in November was coming aboard.

He tweeted: “Former Tallahassee mayor and Democratic nominee for FL governor @AndrewGillum is joining @CNN as a political commentator.”

Gillum also tweeted the “thrilling” news:

It’s been alleged that as mayor, Gillum accepted gifts from lobbyists, to include a trip to Costa Rica and New York. Gillum was accompanied by longtime friend and former campaign manager, Adam Corey, who has been the focus of an extensive FBI probe.

Gillum, who calls himself an “unapologetic progressive,” met with former President Barack Obama in Washington back in December — Obama endorsed his failed bid for governor. With a number of former Obama officials employed at CNN, perhaps the former president put in a plug for him.

With an astute social media user noting that Gillum is “failing upwards,” the two men share that trait in common.

But, as freelance journalist Jeryl Bier asked, with the ethics investigation proceeding how can this possibly be a good idea at this time?

After all, even left-leaning sights like Slate now questions Gillum’s credibility:

Here’s a sampling of the reaction to the not-so-surprising news from Twitter:
