‘Got your number’: Police union chief rips ‘dirtbags’ after TX shootout, puts those who spread anti-cop rhetoric on notice

Hours after five officers were shot during a shootout on Monday afternoon between Houston police officers and two suspects, the president of the Houston Police Officers’ Union issued a statement excoriating both those who attack the police and those who promote anti-cop resentment.

“We are sick and tired of having targets on our back,” union president Joe Gamaldi said during a presser early Monday evening outside Memorial Hermann Hospital, where two of the five wounded officers were in critical condition, struggling just to survive another day.

“We are sick and tired of having dirtbags trying to take our lives when all we’re trying to do is protect this community and protect our families,” he added, before switching his attention to cop haters.

“Enough is enough. If you’re the ones out there spreading the rhetoric that police officers are the enemy, well just know we’ve all got your number now. We’re going to be keeping track on all of y’all, and we’re going to make sure to hold you accountable every time you stir the pot on our police officers.”

Listen:

The five officers were fired upon while trying to execute a drug-related search warrant on a southeast Houston home where a neighbor had said drugs were being sold.

“I want to say right off the bat that no officer has died,” Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo revealed during the presser.

“Immediately upon reaching the door, the officers came under fire from one or two suspects inside the house,” he continued, adding that two officers were critically injured, two others were injured but expected to recover and a fifth had sustained a knee injury.

After the shootout, a SWAT team reportedly probed the residence with robots to check whether it was safe for officers to enter. When the police did go inside, they found the two suspects dead.

Dovetailing back to Gamaldi, while it’s unclear why he singled out both cop shooters and those who promote anti-cop resentment, there is a history of anti-cop rhetoric and behavior in Texas.

Three years ago a raging anti-cop and reportedly anti-white lunatic ambushed a group of Dallas Police Department officers, killing five and injuring nine more. This occurred amid then-President Barack Hussein Obama’s relentless campaign against cops across the nation.

The campaign began after the justified shooting of Ferguson thug Mike Brown and coincided with the launch of Black Lives Matter, a virulently anti-cop movement that’s demonized all cops as racist and suggested that cops need to be disarmed, defunded and disbanded.

Obama’s “war on cops,” as it was called, led to “defiance and hostility displayed by assailants toward law enforcement” becoming the norm, according to a 2017 FBI study.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

While the anti-cop rhetoric has died down some since President Donald Trump, a proud supporter of the police, took over in early 2017, it still remains “trendy” among certain sects of the populace to hate cops, NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch noted last year.

“I think it’s trendy to hate cops, I think it’s trendy to bash cops,” she said on “Fox & Friends” last May in the wake of the death of a Baltimore County police officer. “A lot of people believe it’s very easy for them to Sunday morning quarterback a cop’s decisions through a keyboard, which I don’t like to see, particularly when those people have no law enforcement training.”

She wasn’t wrong. Just take a look at the response Gamaldi is receiving for his tough comments:

There’s no evidence to suggest the police target blacks. In fact, mounds of evidence has disproved this narrative time and time again. But thanks to Obama, BLM and the other race-baiters whom Gamaldi slammed during the presser Monday, this lie continues to be peddled as fact.
