Meghan McCain takes on divas and Brian Stelter over racist accusations: ‘I’m John McCain’s daughter!’

While moderate Republicans are always eager to prove how progressive they are by sacrificing one of their own on the left’s altar of enlightenment — virtue signalling — in hopes of earning the praise of those who still hate them, they still have some fight in them.

Meghan McCain, co-host of “The View,” proved as much when she got into with CNN reporter Brian Stelter on Twitter over a fiery segment on Tuesday’s show about Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, being an alleged racist. Predictably, the focus would soon shift to President Donald Trump and border security.

“‘The View’ would need way more than an hour to finish this conversation…” Stelter tweeted.

In the segment, McCain denounces King and calls for him to “step down” in the wake of a New York Times interview where he spoke about white supremacy, although his real offense in the eyes of the left was likely defending Western civilization.

King has never been liked by political class Republicans, going back to when John Boehner was speaker, and has long been a target of the left. The congressman may be too blunt for his own good when talking about third rail issues like race, and too quick to give time to liberal publications like the N.Y. Times that hate him (and take him out of context, according to King), but there’s little to suggest he’s a racist, other than political rhetoric from his detractors.

There’s also no shortage of Republicans willing to feed into the left’s caricature of white male conservatives in the quest to showcase how woke they are.

As for Tuesday’s segment, co-host Sunny Hostin used the focus on King to swipe at Trump, implying that the need to secure our southern border is a secret campaign to stamp out “brown people.”.

“Will Republicans now step up to the plate with Donald Trump?” she asked. “Because he has been using, I think, the border wall as sort of this dog whistle for racism. The government is still shut down. And I think it’s all about ‘Let’s not let all these brown people in.’”

While liberals continue to use race to tear at the very fabric of our society, McCain pushed back on the notion that those who support a secure border are closet racists.

“I am John McCain’s daughter!” she declared at one point. “I am not someone who sits here and is okay with racism!”

McCain hit back at Stelter along that line, criticizing CNN for not exposing “real anti-semitism.”

“Or sometimes we only need one segment on a subject to expose real anti-semitism when your network spent an entire year on a documentary on the subject and never touched it….” she tweeted.

The segment in question can be seen below:

Perusing through the reaction to the Stelter/McCain spat, it’s clear that as far as the left is concerned, the Republican Party is a party of racists and there’s no disputing it.

It’s also clear that in painting with this broad brush, President Trump and the 2020 presidential election is the real goal.

What people like Meghan McCain, and Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, and Rep. Liz Cheney, R-WY, who justify the left’s attack on targets like King, is that this does not make them immune to being attacked.

As we know, history had shown that feeding the crocodile, hoping it will eat you last is a failed strategy.
