Woman gets ‘Instant Pot’ for Christmas with Walmart shopper’s engagement ring inside. The rest of the story is pretty great …

Washington state resident Shiloah Avery definitely deserves kudos for her honesty.

On Christmas morning Avery opened up her Christmas gift, an Instant Pot pressure cooker, only to find someone else’s wedding ring trapped in the item’s packaging.

“I pulled the bottom packaging material out and there was a wedding ring in the bottom of it and it wasn’t just like an engagement ring it was an actual wedding band and ring,” she said to Seattle station KCPQ. “And they’d been soldered together and you could tell it’d been someone’s ring for a long time.”

It’s what she did next that ought to make her eligible for an honesty award.

“I could only imagine if that was me and it was sad. It’s somebody’s possession, especially being a wedding ring, so I wanted to make sure it got back to the owner,” she said.

So without further ado, she first contacted the product’s manufacturer and then posted about the wedding ring on a Facebook page for Port Orchard, her local community.

And wouldn’t you know it, the ring’s true owner just happened to see the post.

“Read this in big letters with a big picture of an Instant Pot and it said, ‘I found a ring.’ And immediately it was like an electrical shock going through me. OK, I lost my ring by Instant Pots Someone just found a ring in an Instant Pot box,” owner Joann Johnson said.

She explained that while shopping for an Instant Pot a couple months back, she accidentally lost her wedding ring. It reportedly occurred just days before her 20th wedding anniversary.

“It was this empty feeling because it’s like, 20 years. I’ve had it for 20 years. To lose it just before our anniversary. … We searched high and low. We go to customer service. They have nothing,” she said to Seattle station KIRO.

Speaking with Portland, Oregon station KOIN, Johnson added that when she lost her ring, she used the same Facebook page as Avery to try and recover it.

“I had posted in the Port Orchard Facebook page, just a wild shot in the dark, ‘If anybody happens to see a diamond, pick up a diamond band at Walmart please turn it into customer service. Didn’t get any responses other than ‘Gee, hope you find it,'” she said.

Within hours of Avery posting to Facebook, her phone was reportedly “blowing up” with notifications from Johnson and her friends informing her that Johnson was its true owner. Avery then reportedly had draw Johnson a picture of the ring to confirm that she was indeed its owner.

The rest is history.

“To me she is my Christmas angel. She is just my absolute Christmas angel. It made my year,” Johnson said to KOIN about Avery’s act of honesty and kindness.

Being as Avery is indeed such an honest and kind person, she, of course, doesn’t actually expect or seek any reward or even kudos for her amazing deed: “Just being able to give somebody that high of such good emotion — that just made all of us feel good,” she said.

You’d be amazed at how often people misplace or lose their wedding ring.

“We were checking out Instant Pants, and they had some on display, but I wanted to see the smaller ones, but they didn’t have any of those out, so we had to open a box,” Johnson said.

And just like that, her wedding ring disappeared. She’s not alone. A cursory glance through social media shows thousands of posts from people who’ve lost or just found their wedding ring.
