The Congolese immigrant arrested after scaling the Statue of Liberty on the 4th of July to protest U.S. immigration policy was convicted on Tuesday on all counts by a Manhattan federal judge.

And, as is becoming a trend, creepy porn lawyer Michael Avenatti was on hand as Okoumou’s adviser, as his client crashed and burned.
Judge Gabriel Gorenstein ruled Tuesday in a one-day bench trial Therese “Patricia” Okoumou was guilty of three misdemeanor charges: trespassing, disorderly conduct and interfering with government functions, according to the New York Post.
But, oddly, even though she could spend 18 months in jail and was reportedly emotional in court, Okoumou claimed to be happy over the outcome.
“I’m really really happy, as you can see,” she said in an interview outside the court. “I did testify and I’m confident with my testimony that I say my piece.”
Basking in the glow of the media limelight, she also remarked on how happy she was to see Avenatti — though he clearly didn’t help matters much and further gives the impression of giant publicity stunt.
“Mr. Avenatti is here today and I was so happy to see him,” a glowing Okoumou said. “He has just recently joined our legal team and he’s here to offer his support.
All of which makes one wonder who she’s referring to when she speaks of “our legal team,” and who is paying this team of attorneys.
But she wasn’t as happy when testifying, as The Post reported Okoumou was crying on the witness stand.
“I had been destroyed by the plight of our broken immigration system,” she said on the stand.
No word on if she was crying to keep from laughing at the absurd assertion, though someone might remind Okoumou she is free to return to Congo at her convenience.
