A self-described “blue-dog Democrat” country music star who supported former President Barack Obama’s 2008 candidacy has sparked outrage by announcing that he intends to perform in the Communist dictatorship and veritable hellhole of Cuba next spring.
“The band and I are heading to Cuba in May. Can’t Wait! #HavanaNights,” country music singer Tim McGraw excitedly tweeted to his three million followers earlier this month, triggering outrage from those concerned about the left-wing nation’s history of human rights violations.
He included a video that invited his fans to spend thousands of dollars to travel to Cuba with him.
Watch:
McGraw has invited his American fans to spend between $2,999 to $5,799 to travel with him and spend four days at a music festival he’ll be hosting in Havana.
“The McGraw trip offers lodging in ocean-view rooms at Havana’s upscale Meliá Hotel, where a box of cigars and a bottle of rum will await each traveler,” Billboard reported at the time.
“The all-inclusive tour is designed to make foreigners’ typical Havana dreams come true, featuring a ride around Havana in a classic American convertible, a rumba party, and the chance to ‘Walk in the footsteps of Hemingway and Obama!’ in Old Havana.”
While the trip sounded fun and luxurious to some, to others it inspired even more frustration toward a music star whom many now feel doesn’t represent their values anymore.

@TheTimMcGraw Go to Cuba and stay there. I will never purchase another CD or anything that you are involved in.

Every time I think I have seen the last of the ignorance of members of our entertainment community, something like this comes along. Enjoy the communist country of Cuba Timmy, and throw some pennies to the campesinos you might encounter outside of the city…….

He is going to Cuba! No one should buy tickets to this communist sympathizer! Hell no!

You’re going to perform in Cuba????????? Maybe you need to educate your little self before you go.

not good @TheTimMcGraw
Raul Castro’s son Alejandro (a fanatical Stalinist and KGB-trained Colonel in Cuba’s Secret police) actually runs Cuba
while Cubans suffer – Castros will make a fortune from your tour

Hey, @TheTimMcGraw, when you’re in #Cuba ask them about Decree 349, a law that would ban the creation of any art, public or private, without receiving a license from the communist Ministry of Culture.

While animosity toward McGraw began brewing in 2008, when he pledged that his his family would “do everything we can to support Obama,” it’s really hit the fan in the past few years.
First McGraw joined the campaign for “common sense” gun control last year, arguing that “military weapons should not be in the hands of civilians.” By “military weapons” he meant ARs.
Then earlier this year he teamed up with former first lady Michelle Obama and other liberal celebrities for a “get out the vote” campaign that seemed more like a “get out the Democrat vote” campaign.
Watch:
The singer’s latest actions may be his most “offensive” thus far.
As noted by many on social media, Cuba is essentially a third-world dictatorship where the spoils of labor are hoarded by the Communists up top, while the “working class” is left to suffer under constant oppression, poverty and censorship.
Some find it ironic, given that Democrats like McGraw have made such a big stink about President Donald Trump’s alleged connections to the equally repressive country of Russia:
Apparently .@TheTimMcGraw has no issue w human rights violations in Cuba?! Cuba even recently passed a law against any form of art, up to & including sketching in one’s home! But yeah, let’s earn $’s for Communists? Yet #Dems worry ab Russia! ? #nothankshttps://t.co/s6Exuq2Wza

Cuban dissidents who live in the U.S. have also spoken out against McGraw, begging him to take some time to sit with them and learn Cuba’s real history.
Look:
@TheTimMcGraw before u travel to Cuba please visit Miami & speak to my aunt & the many former prisoners of Castros’ murderous regime. Tourist $ go to the Communist leaders not to the people! @seanhannity @realDonaldTrump @RealJamesWoods #Brigade2506 https://t.co/2d2hd3Cpmc

Why are you going to a country that is run by a dictator? Do you know how many people have died and live in poverty because of their leader. This is unacceptable
