Congressional Democrats have vowed to investigate the Trump administration for the alleged “murder” of a malnourished 7-year-old migrant girl who died while in U.S. custody last week.
“They murdered this child,” California Rep. Norma Torres declared during an appearance Friday on MSNBC without citing any clear evidence. “They did that. … And they murdered many other children. And they’re separating families. They must be held accountable.”

This allegation of murder seems to mirror allegations of Russian collusion against President Donald Trump, it that it appears to be rooted more-so in anti-Trump fervor than the actual facts.
According to reports, when U.S. Customs and Border Protection took the girl and her father into custody on Dec. 6 after they had reportedly crossed the southern border with a group of 163 migrants, her father failed to inform border authorities of her ailing health.
Torres seems to believe this too is CBP’s fault: “He is from an indigenous community. He is not bilingual. He speaks a tribal language, not Spanish,” she complained Friday.
It appears she thinks the agency’s officers should’ve been equipped to speak the man’s language. But since they weren’t, they apparently deserve blame for his silence.
It’s unclear whether Torres also believes it’s the agency’s fault that the girl’s father dragged her through thousands of miles of Central American hell for a chance to demand asylum.
Not until seven hours later after the family’s apprehension did federal authorities realize that the girl was severely malnourished and hadn’t eaten or drank anything in days.
But by then it was too late, despite the agency’s best efforts to save her. Just to be clear, the girl’s father has made it clear in a statement that he doesn’t blame CBP for her death.

“Border Patrol agents took every possible step to save the child’s life under the most trying of circumstances,” CBP spokesman Andrew Meehan said in a statement to The Washington Post.
“As fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, we empathize with the loss of any child. Our sincerest condolences go out to the family of the child.”

When asked by host Lawrence O’Donnell whether House Democrats intend to investigate this and similar “murders” once they retake the House next month, the California congresswoman said yes.
“Absolutely,” she replied. “On January 3rd when Democrats take over, we are prepared to begin the process of holding them accountable, holding hearings and getting to the truth of the matter that they are treating children and families like we would not treat anyone.”
Torres is one of dozens (if not hundreds) of Democrats — including failed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton — who, according to social media, have been attempting to “exploit” the girl’s death to “score points” against the Trump administration.

Among the Democrats “exploiting” the girl’s death is potential 2020 Democrat primary candidate Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas. In an emotional screed to MSNBC last week, he pushed back against the argument that the father shouldn’t have dragged his daughter to the border.
“You do not travel 2,000 miles with your 7-year-old child for kicks or to take advantage of another country,” he said. “You do it because you’re desperate. What would cause you to take your child and make that journey unless it was the only thing you could do to save your child’s life.”
This line of thinking echoes the Democrat Party platform position that illegal immigration shouldn’t just be tolerated but rather actively encouraged, never mind the risks.

The far-leftists who inhabit Hollywood have also weighed in on the girl’s death, albeit in far more disturbing and sinister ways than their Democrat peers in Congress.
Take emotionally unstable actor Jim Carrey, who posted a troubling tweet Friday accusing the president of being a sadist and suggesting he’ll one day go to hell.
