Sen. Graham vows to Americans he’ll stay on Steele dossier: Someone needs to be punished for FISA fraud

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday a special counsel should have been “appointed a long time ago to look into all things Clinton.”

Appearing on Fox News’ “Hannity,” Graham was responding to host Sean Hannity calling attention to Hillary Clinton’s ties to the Uranium One deal with Russia and to her presidential campaign paying for the salacious Christopher Steel dossier cited to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

“So here’s what I will do if I am the chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the Senate next year: I’m going to look at the FISA warrant application,” he said. “How much of it was based on the dossier?”

“Was there any information beyond the dossier offered to get the warrant?” Graham added. “And if the dossier was unverified, how could you swear to the court that it was accurate? Somebody misled the court. So I promise you and your listeners that we’re going to find out how this warrant was issued.”

Former FBI director James Comey admitted during closed-door testimony before the House Judiciary Committee last week that the bureau didn’t verify allegations in the Steele dossier, which contained documents alleging Russian influence over Trump, and still had not done so months after it was cited to obtain the warrant, according to the New York Post.

The Republican senator from South Carolina, likely to be the next chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, also answered why it’s important to pursue the details behind the Steele dossier.

“If the document that the judge was given was paid for by a political party and the opposing candidate, and it was never verified — and it’s not verified to this day — what happens to those who submit the document to the court?” Graham asked. “If they’re not punished you’re gonna reinforce doing this in the future.”

He said it would be “front page news all over the world,” if Trump or the RNC tried to pull off what Clinton did.

Graham also made it clear that the issue will not be going away any time soon.

“We’re not gonna let this go because it’s important to the American people that the FISA warrant application process work correctly,” he told Hannity.
