Special counsel Robert Mueller’s recommendation this week that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn be spared a prison bid left some liberals reeling so badly that their Trump Derangement Syndrome practically transformed overnight into Flynn Derangement Syndrome.
“I cannot express how disappointed I am that #Flynn is not going to prison,” an exasperated HuffPost reporter tweeted Wednesday, a day after Mueller filed sentencing documents.
Her followers echoed this sentiment, though some tried to look on the bright side by speculating that Flynn’s plea deal with the special counsel might lead to President Donald Trump’s indictment.

I was surprised, then convinced I heard wrong. Citing his career of public service would be the thing that hung him, seeing as he would certainly know better, instead of being a mitigating factor. On the bright side, what he gave up must have been really really good.

The theories regarding Trump’s potential indictment are based on the belief that the president and his top officials — including those serving now, those who served in the past and those who only participated in the president’s 2016 campaign — are wicked, corrupt criminals.
Like one Trump Derangement Syndrome-afflicted leftist recently opined on Twitter, “Flynn is a criminal who was working in the interest of foreign governments. Not a patriot.”
Except that’s a false narrative, according to retired U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova.
“General Flynn actually did nothing wrong,” he explained during a discussion Wednesday with Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “The agents said he didn’t lie. But, Mueller decided he was going to charge him with lying anyway. Everything that general Flynn did was legal.”

Prior to the president’s inauguration in January of 2017, Flynn reportedly communicated with several Russian diplomats. When later questioned by federal investigators about these communications, he allegedly lied, though a number of agents have claimed otherwise.
“This was a designed plot to frame general Flynn so that they could figure out a way to go after President Trump,” diGenova added. “It’s all a part of the same theme.”
Despite doing “nothing wrong,” the former national security adviser has had his life ruined because of Mueller’s “witch hunt,” as the president calls the investigation into alleged Russian collusion.
Flynn’s plea deal had nothing to do with collusion. Nor did the deals made by former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and former Trump attorney Michael Cohen.
But neither these facts nor Flynn’s past as a decorated four-star general appear to matter much to the left, which already decided long ago that he must be guilty and therefore deserves hell.

They want to haul Flynn off to prison and rob his his family of his earned pension, and all because he allegedly lied to federal authorities about his perfectly legal communications with Russian diplomats after the 2016 election, or so they say. diGenova thinks otherwise.
“The bottom line is this was a frame-up of general Flynn to get Donald Trump,” he said Wednesday. “And do you know what? It almost worked, except there’s with a no collusion.”
And according to social media, this is the real reason the left wants to see Flynn flayed — because of his ties to the man they hate with all their heart, President Donald Trump.
