Consent and misogyny in a “Little Mermaid” song? Say it ain’t so!
Given the chance liberals will ruin everything, from Disney cartoons to masculinity, even the concept of falling in love.
With the left having weaponized the #MeToo movement, resulting in men running for cover when a woman enters the room, an all-male Princeton University a cappella group decided to temporarily scrap a “Little Mermaid” song from its set list, according to Fox News.
The song in question is “Kiss The Girl,” and Wesley Brown, a senior and president of the Tigertones, explained in a letter to The Daily Princetonian that a central element of their performance involves a soloist picking a male and female from the audience, who then dance and are encouraged to “do as the song says,” which is to give a peck on the cheek.
The lyrics in the song include:
Yes, you want her
Look at her, you know you do
It’s possible she wants you tooThere’s one way to ask her
It don’t take a word, not a single word
Go on and kiss the girl, kiss the girl
Aside from the fact that the song is being sung by a cartoon crab, imagery shows an overtly shy Prince Eric and the lead female character, Ariel, sitting together in a row boat, in the process of falling in love as they look longingly at one another.
“In the last few years, we have taken intentional steps towards ensuring that audience participation is more voluntary and consensual,” Brown said. “These steps have clearly not succeeded in guaranteeing total comfort for both participants or in obtaining continual consent.”
“Performances of this song have made participants uncomfortable and offended audience members, an outcome which is antithetical to our group’s mission and one that we deeply regret,” he added.
Brown wrote that they’re removing “Kiss the Girl” from their repertoire because of concerns expressed, “until we can arrive at a way to perform it that is comfortable and enjoyable for every member of our audience.”
Uh, think they’ve considered not encouraging two strangers to kiss? Which doesn’t require dropping the song.
The group’s decision came after the school newspaper ran an op-ed calling for them to stop performing “Kiss the Girl.”

Sophmore Noa Wollstein wrote that the song “is more misogynistic and dismissive of consent than cute,” saying the lyrics “unambiguously encourage men to make physical advances on women without obtaining their clear consent.”
“The song launches a heteronormative attack on women’s right to oppose the romantic and sexual liberties taken by men, further inundating the listener with themes of toxic masculinity,” she declared.
And there you have it, the ability of a single feminist sad sack to rain on the parade of others.
