There can be little doubt at this point that CBS’s “Murphy Brown” was relaunched to target President Donald Trump.
The latest episode of the failed reboot featured a reporter being viciously assaulted at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, with the journalist being airlifted to a hospital after being singled out by the president.
(While it was reported that the show “was always intended to be a closed-ended order of 13 episodes,” the fact remains that amid dismal ratings, CBS has opted not to order more episodes.)
The egregious episode was clearly designed to portray Trump as an instigator of violence and to portray his supporters as easily led to harm others.
The assault on the reporter begins after fictitious Trump goes after the show’s title character, according to The Hill.
“Anybody catch old Murphy on TV this morning?” the Trump character said. “Yes, she was at it again sitting there with her flunky friends, telling their big lies, planting their fake stories about our great country.”
After calling out the reporter character Frank, who is in the crowd, the fake Trump called on the crowd to set upon him.
“I hear old Murphy’s partner in crime, fibbing Frank Fontana is here tonight. Where is he? There he is. See him? That’s right,” the Trump character said. “Let fibbin’ Frank know what you think of him. Maybe a good body slam. What do you say?”
Frank is then assaulted so badly that he must be hospitalized.
Brown later confronts a woman who punched the reporter, with the show’s writers having the woman regurgitate phrases Trump has used toward the media.
“He had it coming,” the woman said. “He’s fake news. He’s the enemy of the people.”
Stellar writing it is not, which helps explain why the program is being shelved.
And to be sure the point got across that Trump supporters are unhinged violent people, Brown’s son is punched later in the episode while interviewing two people live on air.
“We pushed our episode a little farther than I think we intended it originally, because the feeling was pretty much that if it continues like this, somebody really is going to get hurt,” creator Diane English told The Hollywood Reporter.
English said it was a “very frightening” episode to do, given how real the cautionary tale could be — a perception that requires membership in the Trump Derangement Syndrome crowd.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the liberal propaganda from Twitter:

What truth? Jim Ocasta at Trump rallies taking selfies and shaking hands with “red hats”. That truth?

This isn’t the truth by any stretch. Liberals and the #FakeNews insights attacks against Pres. @realDonaldTrump supporters and turn a deaf ear to real attacks from nut cases like Black Lives Matter and crazy leftist trying to break down doors of Conservatives like @TuckerCarlson!

No wonder this idiotic show was canceled.
