Geraldo and Bongino go at it over border when one suggests we politely ask rock-throwers to stop – in Spanish, of course

Fox News liberal commentator Geraldo Rivera appears to believe that nothing justifies using tear gas against migrants, even being pummeled with rocks and other dangerous projectiles.

He seemed to admit as much Thursday when fellow network commentator Dan Bongino asked him how he’d respond if he were a U.S. Border Patrol agent and the so-called “migrants” affiliated with the caravan in Tijuana suddenly decided to attack him.

“You’re standing in the face of these border patrol agents, patrolling our border, just doing their jobs to keep our nation secure,” Bongino said during a discussion that evening on Fox News’ “Hannity” about how U.S. Border Patrol responded when migrants stormed the border last weekend.

“What are you telling them to do when a rock comes at their face? What? What is your answer?” Bongino then asked, hopeful that Rivera might finally admit that America’s border agents were justified in their tough but necessary response last weekend.

But instead of answering, Geraldo again resorted to pushing out “a lot of platitudes.”

“This is what you do not do, Dan: You do not shoot tear gas at women with small children,” he said, completely ignoring his counterpart’s point. “You and Sean are both the grandsons or great grandsons of immigrants. Italian immigrants, Irish immigrants, they were slandered just like you are slandering these people. They have diseases. They’re bringing disease.”

But what does that have to do with the question? And how is it wrong to highlight facts about the migrants? A Tijuana Health Department spokesperson confirmed last week that more than a third of the 6,000 migrants squatting in northern Mexico are suffering from serious medical issues including but not limited to tuberculosis, chickenpox and HIV/AIDs.

His implication seemed to be that stating facts and defending the U.S. border from economic migrants are somehow racist and immoral actions that shouldn’t be tolerated, never mind the facts.

Bongino responded by saying, “You are not answering the question … what do you do?”

Geraldo finally answered by trotting out an idea so unrealistic that it inspired Bongino to ask, “You’re not serious, are you?” Actually, yes, he was serious.

“You send Spanish-speaking ambassadors to the crowd. You explain to them that they are not able to rush the border. We explain to them the facts. You explain to them the reality of what is happening,” the left-wing commentator suggested.

Hannity responded by playing this clip and hitting the left-wing commentator with another question:

“There are hundreds charging the border and charging at police. What if it is thousands? What to do then? That is an important question you need to answer,” he asked.

“Are you going to believe those words or your own lying eyes when you look at the video and see the composition of this crowd. This is a benign, suffering civilian crowd,” Geraldo replied.

It’s unclear why or how — when watching the above video of young men and gang members attacking U.S. Border Patrol with rocks — he sees a “benign, suffering civilian crowd.”

He continued by claiming that the video of migrants throwing rocks at border authorities doesn’t tell the real story, which is that the migrants are suffering.

“What about the scenes of them living in squalor in the athletic field, where they’re begging for food and living in the most inhumane conditions?” he asked.

But as noted by Bongino, this again had nothing to do with his original question, which was how Geraldo would react if he were protecting the border and migrants suddenly threw rocks at him.

But forget that question for a second, because social media has some interesting questions for him as well, such as why doesn’t he himself travel to the border and act as a so-called “ambassador?”

Considering Geraldo’s refusal to answer Bongino’s question, it’s doubtful that he’ll answer these questions posed to him by social media users.
