Non-citizen voting program cost San Fran $6,326 per voter

The liberal San Francisco government reportedly spent $310,000 on a registration system to get non-citizens — to include illegal immigrants — to cast votes in school board elections.

The new program netted 49 new voters, which works out to $6,326 spent per voter, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Naturally, the newspaper, which called the effort “pretty much a bust the first time out,” blamed President Donald Trump, saying his election “quickly put a damper on enthusiasm for the idea.”

“This year, city officials began voicing concerns that signing up could expose people here illegally to detection by Immigration and Customs Enforcement since voter rolls — including home addresses — could be subpoenaed by the feds,” The Chronicle reported.

Chris Salcedo, director of the Hispanic Conservative Society, appeared on “Fox & Friends” in July to discuss San Francisco allowing non-citizens to vote.

Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer wanted the city to drop half a million dollars to warn illegal immigrants that registering to vote could out them up to exposure to ICE, the federal agency tasked with enforcing immigration laws.

And as stunning as it is that a city official would be that protective of people living in the country illegally, keep in mind this is the same city that acquitted the illegal immigrant who killed Kate Steinle.

The act of warning illegal immigrants would have doomed the new program, but it was for naught because the then-mayor shot down the idea, according to the paper.

Surprisingly, while San Francisco may be the most notorious sanctuary city, it’s not  the first to allow illegal immigrants to vote.

There are at least six cities in Maryland, where an estimated 15 percent of residents are foreign-born, that allow noncitizens to vote in local elections, Fox News reported.

Newsweek identified the cities as College Park, Hyattsville, Mount Rainier, Takoma Park, Barnesville, Garrett Park, Glen Echo and Somerset.
