Obama wants you to ‘remember who started’ booming economy. ‘Republicans run things into ground, we have to clean things up’

Former President Barack Obama’s limited appearance on the campaign trail seems to have as much to do with salvaging some part of his legacy as it does with the task of electing Democrats.

Speaking at a rally Monday in Las Vegas, Obama told the crowd to “remember who started” the current economic boom, crediting the actions he took in response to the Great Recession for the economy’s performance today.

The former president rolled out the same tired analogy, lecturing us about “who we are” and saying those who oppose the failed progressive agenda do so because they are “scared” — recall the 2008 remark about small town America being “bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them.”

He then tried to take credit for the Trump economy that was boosted not only by a Republican tax cut, but by the Trump administration cutting endless regulations — many of which being instituted under Obama.

“When I walked into office 10 years ago, we were in the middle of the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes,” Obama told rally-goers. “That was the last time the other party was in charge of something.”

Flipping reality on its head, he went on to talk about there being “a pattern” where Republicans “run things into the ground and we have to come back and clean things up.”

“We got the economy rolling again,” Obama said. “By the time I left office, wages were rising,  uninsurance rate was falling, poverty was falling, and that’s what I handed off to the next guy.”

“So when you hear all this talk about economic miracles right now, remember who started it,” he added.

The remark was a jab at President Donald Trump, who said on the South Lawn of the White House in July, “Everywhere we look we are seeing the effects of the American economic miracle.”

Speaking of past remarks, there was a common theme online in response to Obama’s claim, borrowing from his infamous line,” If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
