While a distant memory today, the contentious 2000 presidential election between Republican nominee George W. Bush and Democratic nominee Al Gore is pointed to by many as the source of the hatred that defines the Democrat Party today.
The razor thin outcome in favor of Bush came as a result of him winning Florida by 537 votes, after a month-long legal battle culminated in a contentious, 5-4 Supreme Court decision. Hanging chads ring a bell?
Some say Democrats never got over Gore’s defeat, but it turns out the hate wasn’t all one sided.
According to a letter now being sold by by Moments in Time, Bush’s father, former President George H.W. Bush, could not stand Gore.
The letter, wrote to his friend Dan Rostenkowski on October 9, 2000, is available for a cool $12,500.
The senior Bush tells the former congressman how anxious he is over the upcoming election.

“You can just imagine how proud we are of George W and how nervous we are about the election. I have gotten so I can’t stand Al Gore.”
“I sit on the sidelines pained when the press or Gore attack,” he continued. “It is far worse when it’s your son who is under heavy incoming fire, Danny, far worse!”
Given the current hatchet job against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl, leaving her to think he may kill her, and of being a serial gang rapist, the “incoming fire” has gotten far worse since then.
Of course, we know how the 94-year-old Bush felt when son Jeb went up against Donald Trump in the GOP primary in 2016.
“I don’t like him. I don’t know much about him, but I know he’s a blowhard,” the senior Bush said of Trump in May 2016. “And I’m not too excited about him being a leader.”
He also voted for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the presidential election.
