The gamble by Fox to pick up “Last Man Standing” looks to be a big winner.
The right-leaning sitcom starring comedian/actor Tim Allen was cancelled last year by ABC and scored a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 along with 8.01 million viewers in its debut on Fox, compared to a 2016-17 average of 1.2 and 6.41 million viewers in same-day ratings, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
That made “Last Man Standing” the top-rated show on Friday night. Overall, Fox almost doubled it’s rating in adults 18-49 for the night from a year ago, jumping from 0.7 to 1.3.
ABC’s decision to abruptly cancel the hit series caught people by surprise, including the show’s star.
“Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years,” Allen tweeted in May 2017.

Allen plays Mike Baxter, a conservative businessman who’d likely support President Donald Trump, although there are no plans to refer to Trump directly on the program, Allen and executive producer Kevin Abbott told USA Today.
“It’s always about his looks, his tweeting,” Allen said of potential joke material. “It’s been done. It’s done every night on Colbert, so there’s nothing new.”
In real life, the actor has spoken in support of the president.
“You know… it’s a very loaded question,” he told Entertainment Weekly when asked for his thoughts on Trump. “I’ve met [Trump] at the charity event years ago, and that certainly doesn’t fit with the man who tweets. I’ve met a lot of people in private whose public persona is a bit off.”
“My perception is ‘let’s see what he gets done.’ Let’s stop banging on the pilot’s door and trying to pull the guy out of his seat while he’s still flying,” Allen continued. “You might not like how he’s flying the plane but let’s let him land it.”
