NFL’s new policy is no policy, which says it all. Trump takes notice, taunts that bad ratings could get worse

With the 2018 season now underway, the NFL, led by its weak-kneed commissioner, Roger Goodell, is not expected to implement a “new” policy on the national anthem this season.

The NFL instituted a new policy in May requiring everyone on the field to “stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem.” Players had an option to stay in the locker room, with teams being fined by the NFL for violations.

But the new policy didn’t last very long as the league shelved it in July, less than two months after it was implemented , because the players’ union objected.

This coming after Goodell tried to placate the players by pledging $89 million to so-called “social justice causes” over the next seven years — money that will actually go to several organizations connected to the liberal billionaire George Soros.

Amid this embarrassment, the league has been engaged in talks with the union on a new policy, but ESPN said on Sunday the league has decided to punt in lieu of taking a firm stand in support of the United States of America.

“The new policy is going to be no policy — at least for this season, according to sources,” ESPN reported.

With no compromise in sight, dialogue will continue. It’s not clear whether players will face discipline if they protest the national anthem by kneeling, according to the liberal sports network.

The protests began when radical left-wing former player Colin Kaepernicj sought to draw attention to perceived police brutality and racial oppression.

With ratings down sharply for the first game of the 2018 season, played Thursday night between the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons, President Donald Trump wasn’t about to let the league off the hook.

Taking to social media on Sunday, the president trashed the NFL over the ratings decline, insisting “ratings could come back” if players were televised standing for the national anthem.

Trump predicted that things will get worse otherwise.

“Wow, NFL first game ratings are way down over an already really bad last year comparison. Viewership declined 13%, the lowest in over a decade. If the players stood proudly for our Flag and Anthem, and it is all shown on broadcast, maybe ratings could come back? Otherwise worse!” he tweeted.
