With the political winds swirling around the pointed criticism directed at President Donald Trump at Sen. John McCain’s memorial service by the late senator’s daughter, Trump supporters had plenty to be unhappy about.
Beginning with the seat selection for the president’s oldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner, who had received an invitation to attend, although there’s plenty of speculation over who extended the invite and why.
One thing is all but certain, daughter Meghan McCain had to know the Trump family members were there when she delivered a stinging shot at the president during her eulogy.
Trump campaign adviser Sam Nunberg was most unhappy with the poor seating assignment the couple recieved.
“It was a very nice gesture by Jared and Ivanka to attend,” he told Politico. “I find it contemptible that the McCain family couldn’t seat them in a better, more respectable section.”
And while the New York Times, citing an anonymous White House source, reported that McCain’s close friend, Sen. Lindsey Graham, was the source of Ivanka’s invite, the South Carolina Republican appeared Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” only to deny the report.

“‘No,” he said of the claim that it came from him. “Nobody was at the funeral who did not get invited by the family.”
But in adding context he let slip that the invite may have been politically motivated, making it sound like a strategic chess move in saying he hopes McCain’s widow, Cindy McCain, “can work with Ivanka” on shared issues.
“Earlier in the week, I met with Ivanka about a trip we’re planning in Africa,” said Graham. “Ivanka said some very nice things about Sen. McCain after his passing. It was not unnoticed by the family.”
“I’m hoping that Cindy, who has done terrific work for human trafficking of women and all things related to that issue, can work with Ivanka and others because that’s her life’s work,” he then added.
Of course, social media users were far more skeptical, suggesting Trump’s daughter was invited as a means to “humiliate” the family via Meghan McCain’s criticism.

The younger McCain’s stinging words resonated in the anti-Trump media,
“The America of John McCain is generous and welcoming and bold,” she said in her eulogy. “She is resourceful and confident and secure. She meets her responsibilities, She speaks quietly because she is strong. America does not boast because she has no need to. The America of John McCain has no need to be great again because America was always great.”
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman added to the theory that the Trump family members were being used for props when he went out of his way to say neither Ivanka or her husband had any complaints about the anti-Trump messaging.
“I thanked them, as John’s friend,” Lieberman said. “It meant a lot. At the end, I spoke to them too and there were no complaints. They felt that the whole service was a great tribute to him.”
“‘They felt that the whole service was a great tribute to [McCain] and elevating,” he added.
Really? As if Ivanka enjoyed sitting there while McCain’s daughter dissed her father.
“Hopefully everybody is elevated by what happened there in the cathedral yesterday and the whole week, and will take some of this forward with us and make the country better,” he said.
There were others online who felt Ivanka’s invitation had purpose:

Although, one social media user flipped the whole narrative to suggest that Ivanka’s presence was a “stunt” orchestrated BY the president — politics, what’s not to love?

This was a stunt, almost 100% certain to originate with the entertainer in chief. It was manufactured to make Trump look like a victim and to make the story about him. He would not be rebuffed without a "play" to execute. This was it.
