Liberals readily acknowledge that when it comes to their blood feud with President Donald Trump, the Supreme Court is the big prize at stake.
New York Times columnist Paul Krugman proved as much when he responded to a tweet from Times colleague Charles Blow questioning how the confirmation process for Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, can go forward in light of Michael Cohen implicating the president in Tuesday’s guilty plea.
But Krugman’s liberal zeal got the better of him when he reluctantly recognized that Kavanaugh will likely be confirmed, but then declared this would make the Supreme Court “fundamentally illegitimate.”
“Yes. Kavanaugh may yet be confirmed, but this will make the SC fundamentally illegitimate,” he tweeted.

So much for the presumption of innocence.
Cohen pleading guilty to eight criminal counts came the same day Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was convicted of eight counts of tax and bank fraud.
And while Manafort’s conviction didn’t implicate the president, Cohen said he made illegal campaign contributions “in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office” — that candidate being Trump.
The “contributions” being payouts to porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who claim to have had affairs with Trump.
As Noah Rothman noted, Krugman’s tweet was more “an expression of angst” than it was a serious thought.

Here’s a sampling of other responses that shows how unhinged and “dangerous” Krugman and the “Resistance” have become in their Trump hate.

We have survived criminal Presidents before with institutional legitimacy battered but intact. The de-legitimization game Krugman & co. are playing is dangerous. https://t.co/DdL6Fzwaym

Alas, “fundamentally illegitimate” isn’t a defect of constitutional dimension. We’re in a situation not contemplated by the founders.

So, was the Supreme Court “legitimate” under FDR when it ruled that the government could imprison an American-born citizen without charge, trial, or recourse simply because of where their ancestors were born?

Nonsense. He’s confirmed by the Senate and sits on a bench with several other extremely qualified judges. Stop trying to delegitimise the institutions of government. You’re as bad as Trump.

This is the most laughable thing I’ve heard all day and it’s been a long funny day.

He’s still President. And we still have the presumption of innocence, last time I checked.
