That aging pro wrestlers on the downside of their careers appear to have a natural inclination to run for public office may say more about our politics than Americans are willing to entertain.

Glenn Jacobs, 51, the red mask-wearing wrestler best known as Kane in the WWE, has been elected as the next mayor of Knox County in Tennessee.

The towering 6-foot-8 former heavyweight champion, billed as “the devil’s favorite demon,” had performed inside the ring as recently as a July 15 at a WWE pay-per-view event in Pittsburgh, ESPN reported.
A Republican, Jacobs has been a resident of Tennessee for over 20 years and he and his wife operate a local insurance and real estate company, according to the liberal sports network.
Upon winning, Jacobs drew upon the similarities between pro wrestling and politics.
“When I announced that I was going to run for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, unfortunately among the political establishment, it was met with pretty resounding laughter that a professional wrestler could think that he could [win],” he said. “And then, the great thing was, this professional wrestler got into a no-holds-barred, last man standing match — and when the bell rung, he was victorious.”
Is this the prelude to a WWE 2020 presidential ticket?

Of course, the most famous ex-pro wrestler to hold public office is Jesse Ventura, who was elected governor of Minnesota — the heel graduated from that performance to sue the widow (and now single mother of two) of former Navy Seal Chris Kyle.
Jacobs will not be the only pro wrestler serving in office, as former WWE star Matt Morgan was elected as a city commissioner in Longwood, Florida, last year.

The 7-foot retired wrestler switched from being a Democrat to no party affiliation the same month he filed to run, according to Orlando Politics.
Morgan is seen below being sworn into office, squaring his stance as if he’s about to enter a ring — which, in effect, is fairly accurate, given the state of politics today.

Here’s a sampling of the responses to Jacob’s being elected to office from Twitter, with conservative pundit and noted NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch leading the way:
