Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, found herself being take to school on U.S. immigration law during a hearing Tuesday on Capitol Hill.
Playing to the emotions of children being separated from their illegal immigrant parents, Hirono asked several ICE officials if they would send their child to a family detention center.
“Again, I think we’re missing the point,” official Matthew Albence stated when she got to him, having grown weary of the line of questioning. “These individuals are there because they have broken a law. There has to be a process.”
“They have broken a law only as deemed so by the president,” the poorly informed senator came back, exposing her true motivation of opposing President Trump.
“No, ma’am. They’re there for violation of Title 8 of the U.S. and Nationality Act,” Albence corrected her. “Ok, They’re… 8 USC 1325 — that’s illegal entry. It’s both a criminal and civil violation. They are in those FRCs pending the outcome of that civil immigration process. They have broken the law.”
That conclusion being a foreign concept to pro-illegal immigrant Democrats.
Hirono then expressed confusion over the difference between civil and criminal proceedings under Trump’s “zero tolerance” policies.
“There were criminal proceedings when the border patrol prosecuted them, but at the conclusion of that process,” Albence explained, “once the individual came into ICE custody, they would go through administrative proceedings.”
“I’m confused,” the Democrat lawmaker said.
Ya’ think?
Albence proceeded to slowly explain that “the criminal proceeding is the individual being prosecuted for the criminal violation of improper entry.”
A determination Democrats refuse to acknowledge, as seen in the conflating of legal and illegal immigrants, which may explain Hirono’s incomprehension.
