Former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty in December to lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador, has been ordered to appear at a hearing next week regarding the delay of his sentencing.
Flynn has been cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and his legal team and prosecutors working for Mueller seek to delay Flynn’s sentencing for an additional two months as he assists the probe, according to CNN.

Their position, according to a court filing, is that delaying sentencing would provide “expedited sentencing.”
“Although this matter is not ready for sentencing,” the filing said, “the parties intend to request that a sentencing hearing be scheduled promptly once the matter becomes ready for sentencing.”
But a reportedly impatient Judge Emmett Sullivan said the parties stated reasoning, that being “the status of the Special Counsel’s investigation,” was not sufficient.
Sullivan ordered everyone back for a hearing next week, which will be Flynn’s first court appearance in seven months.
This is big: in response to today's motion, the Court has, on its own, set the matter for a status hearing. General Flynn will be in attendance.

Which has the anti-Trump forces tingling with anticipation.
“Mueller’s team could also have a chance to drop some hints on how Flynn is helping their investigation, which is increasingly the target of attacks from President Donald Trump and his Republican allies,” CNN reported.
As noted on social media, the likely subject matter will be why did Mueller “secure a plea deal in December of 2017 when it wouldn’t be ready for sentencing in August of 2018?”
Likely subject matter:
Why did the Special Counsel secure a plea deal in December of 2017 when it wouldn’t be ready for sentencing in August of 2018?

In the end, the news prompted plenty of speculation online, not that social media users need a reason.

Mueller wanted a delay until end of August. This judge has just poked him.

Sua sponte. Take that, Mueller

This is NOT a good thing for #Flynn. And sounds like he may be rushing to sentence before Flynn can change his plea (if he’s going to). pic.twitter.com/QxGWQIJU8j
