Rep. Maxine Waters countered a rebuke by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., over her call for a campaign of intimidation and harassment against Trump administration officials by offering a rebuke of her own.
The California Democrat also said President Donald Trump does not “intimidate me.”
Appearing in the friendly confines of MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” Waters said Sunday that she was “surprised” by criticism from Democratic leaders over her telling people to “push back” against the Trump administration and “tell them they’re not welcome.”
Schumer said “that’s not American,” and when asked to comment, Water said she was surprised he “reached into the other house,” before dismissing leadership of her party as self-serving.
“I’ve not quite seen that done before,” she claimed.
“One of the things I recognize, being an elected official, is in the final analysis, leadership — like Chuck Schumer — will do anything that they think is necessary to protect their leadership and so what I have to do is not focus on them,” Waters told host Joy Reid.
Oops. Did she say that out loud?
She also said President Trump “will not stop me.”
“I’m not intimidated by him,” Waters declared. “I think he does not deserve to be the president of the United States and I simply stand up to him.”
Waters made it clear Saturday that her party leadership will not control her either, as she let loose with another bizarre tirade taunting would-be assassins.

Speaking at a “Keep [Illegal Immigrant] Families Together” rally in Los Angeles, she looked past Democrat leadership to again call for the impeachment of Trump.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had tamped down such talk, saying it’s “a gift” to Republicans in the midterms.
But, then again, there can be no greater gift to Republicans than Maxine Waters and the response she draws from the Democrat rank and file.
