Not only do a startling 31 percent of likely U.S. voters believe that another civil war may loom ahead in America’s future, but a 59 percent majority worry that President Donald Trump’s most fervent opponents may one day resort to violence.
It’s hard not see a glaring connection between these poll results from Rasmussen Reports and the increasingly volatile behavior of the Democrat Party and its media allies sow.
It was only a week ago that unhinged California Rep. Maxine Waters proudly urged her constituents to harass and intimidate Trump administration officials.
And it was only a week ago that White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was booted from a restaurant in Virginia, Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was driven out of another restaurant in Virginia and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi was driven out a film screening in Florida.
Like Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro noted last weekend, the left is “normalizing outrageous behavior which is only getting worse.”
To be fair, in 2010 a slightly smaller 53 percent majority of voters were worried that then-President Barack Obama’s fiercest opponents would also resort to violence.
The same percentage of likely U.S. voters now worry “that those critical of the media’s coverage of Trump will resort to violence.”
Many Americans are clearly afraid of other Americans, though the argument could be made that this trepidation isn’t the president’s fault.
While Trump’s a brash, tough-talking New Yorker with a penchant for crude jokes, he’s not the one labeling his opponents Nazis, calling for a revolution and promoting mob action.
Nor are the president and his supporters the ones promulgating outrageous conspiracy theories linking the federal government to the Nazis.
Here’s a hint: When you peddle in conspiracy theories and hatred, what do you think happens? People grow scared and paranoid and start worrying about civil wars, apocalypses, alien invasions and whatever other nonsense.
If the Democrats — and their allies in the media, especially — would just tone down their unhinged, hysterical rhetoric (some of which can heard be heard in the video below), maybe people wouldn’t be so afraid.
But thanks to Trump Derangement Syndrome run amok, it doesn’t appear that’s going to happen anytime soon.
