Seething Chris Matthews calls on Dems to ‘play hardball … a time for vengeance’

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, often the swing vote on the high court, announced on Wednesday that he’ll retire in July and Democrats now have a whole other reason to get their outrage on.

Desperate to stop President Donald Trump from filling the opening, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews led the charge out of the gate, falling back on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s refusal in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election to consider President Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland. Matthews bemoaned that now is “a time for vengeance,” saying Democrats “have to fight this tooth and nail.”

“The [Democrat] base will attack the leadership for this, if they allow it to happen, and they should,” Matthews opined. “This is a time for vengeance for what happened two years ago, and if they don’t reap the vengeance now with four and a half months to go before the election, they will not look very strong to their base, and I think they will be under attack.”

The mantra of the left: Vengeance over country!

Whining that the Supreme Court is “pro-Republican, pro-gun, pro-money and against immigration,” Matthews is calling for the process to be put on hold until the balance of the Senate has been decided in November.

Matthews opened “Hardball” with the same theme, dictating to the progressive base what their reaction is to be if Senate Democrats “allow Trump to pack the Supreme Court.”

“It’s time for Democrats to play Hardball. I’m Chris Matthews and I’m urging them to do just that,” Matthews said. “There are times to fight and this is one of them.”

What the liberal MSNBC host and his ilk don’t seem to grasp is that the president alone nominates a replacement to the court and McConnell’s stance was over WHO gets to make a nomination when a sitting president is just months removed from leaving office, due to term limits.

Needing just 51 voted to confirm a Trump nominee, McConnell may be dependent on the status of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who is battling brain cancer. Other than that, Democrats don’t have much hope of stopping the vacancy from being filled, other than throwing a Hail Mary and calling for the process to be put on hold until special counsel Robert Mueller releases his report, with the hope that there’s impeachment worthy findings.

But that prayer will fall to the turf as an incomplete pass.
