Alice Marie Johnson, the first-time nonviolent drug offender who had her sentence commuted on Wednesday by President Donald Trump following an Oval Office visit from Kim Kardashian, thanked the president for giving her a “second chance in life.”
“I want to say to President Trump, ‘I am going to make you proud that you gave me this second chance in life,'” Johnson said in a phone-in interview with CNN. “And I will not disappoint the American public or the world that has so much faith in me. All I can say is thank you President Trump. And I love you President Trump. Thank you.”
Johnson was serving a life sentence on charges of conspiracy to possess cocaine and attempted possession of cocaine — she has been in prison for 21 years.
Kardashian intervened on Johnson’s behalf last week while meeting with Trump to discuss prison reform.

And Johnson did not forget to thank the reality star, who she called “my angel.”
“And I want to tell Kim, my angel, that you never gave up on me,” Johnson told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “You never gave up your fight. You were relentless. And it has paid off for me and my family on this day.”
TMZ, citing an anonymous source, reported Wednesday night that “Kim and her team are working to arrange a meeting with Alice that could happen as early as this week.”
The 63-year-old grandmother was caught on video after being released from prison Wednesday.
Dressed in all white, Johnson can be seen running to greet family members in an emotional reunion.
In an impromptu interview, Johnson thanked Jesus Christ while citing Philippians 4:13, and then thanked Trump.
“I want to thank President Donald John Trump,” she said, stopping to wipe the tears from her eyes. “Thank you for giving me another chance at life and restoring me to my family.”
She also thanked “our little angel” Kim Kardashian.
The trouble with the president’s recent spate of pardons and acts of clemency is that it undermines the left’s narrative of him, a recipient of Trump’s generosity explained.
“The recent pardons of @realDonaldTrump don’t exactly support the left’s claim that he’s a racist & white supremacist,” conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souzas tweeted.

Kardashian took to Twitter to describe the emotional call she shared with Johnson.
“The phone call I just had with Alice will forever be one of my best memories,” tweeted the reality star. “Telling her for the first time and hearing her screams while crying together is a moment I will never forget.”

She also expressed her gratitude to Trump and the president’s son-in-law and advisor, Jared Kushner.
“So grateful to @realDonaldTrump, Jared Kushner & to everyone who has showed compassion & contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson. Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance,” Kardashian tweeted.
