It’s no secret the Democratic Party is all about identity politics, but who could have ever guessed that a candidate could be “too brown” for the party.
Omar Siddigui, an attorney and long-shot Democratic candidate running for Congress in California, appeared on Fox News Channel’s “The Story with Martha MacCallum” to say he was told by party delegates that he was “too brown” to win Tuesday’s primary — he came in a distance fifth.
The candidate also said he was told that he was the most qualified candidate to take on Republican incumbent Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, but was encouraged to change his name, being told “the name Omar Siddiqui will not work in Orange County.”
Siddiqui was born and raised in Southern California, his campaign website noted.
In a familiar refrain, the Democrat told host Martha MacCallum that he wants to be judged by the content of his character, not the color of his skin
“The Democratic Party is supposed to be the party of the underrepresented and the marginalized,” he said.
MacCallum set the stage to allow Siddiqui to “call these people out by name,” but the candidate demurred, opting instead to recount what he told them. The reluctance to name his tormentors unmistakable.
This reaction prompted some skepticism online about Siddigui’s claim, but other social media users saw the allegation as yet another example of the hypocrisy that defines Democrats.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
My question is do you have proof of this or are you saying this for votes. It does sound like something Liberals would say, but I'm sure people want proof. https://t.co/cQSFZQRoD6

Your too brown… Change your name…
Theres no end to the hypocrisy of the left. They will continue to be chameleons and tell you anything that they think will get you to keep them in power and keep from having to make an honest living.
