Judge Jeanine assembles panel for intervention to save ‘her hero’ Trey Gowdy from the ‘dark side’

Last week outgoing South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, shocked many by defending the FBI’s decision to plant an “informant”/spy in President Donald Trump’s election campaign two years ago.

Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro, one of many conservatives stunned by Gowdy’s sudden about-face, responded Saturday by inviting Reps. Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows and Ron DeSantis to her show for an intervention for the troubled South Carolina legislator.

“Trey Gowdy is one of my heroes,” Pirro said. “I’ve always loved Trey Gowdy. I don’t know if he went to the dark side.”

She had a point. Gowdy had spent years trying to root out the Obama administration’s corruption. Yet now all of a sudden, months after he announced his intention to retire, he’s turned into a spineless supporter of big government? It doesn’t make sense.

“I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got,” Gowdy said during an appearance in late May on CBS’s “This Morning.”

Gowdy was one of several members of Congress who had earlier been briefed by officials in the FBI about the bureau’s investigation into Trump. And apparently the South Carolina representative bought everything they said hook, line and sinker.

But as noted by Jordan, why should anyone believe what the FBI and DOJ have to say?

“(T)he FBI and the DOJ want us to believe, ‘Oh, you can trust us now, we’re giving you a briefing,’ but think about this: We’ve caught them hiding information from us in the past,” he argued Saturday.

Meadows concurred, noting that the evidence disputes everything the FBI told Gowdy.

“We have have a growing body of evidence that would suggest the very opposite of what my good friend Trey Gowdy said. The FBI and the DOJ did do things improperly. We know that there were informants in the Trump campaign prior to the FBI opening an investigation,” he said.

Yet Gowdy believed the FBI and DOJ nevertheless, suggesting he’s either lost interest in pursuing the truth, or he’s drank the Kool-aid, as Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani reportedly put it last week.

Either way, it’s clear the South Carolina representative desperately needs an intervention, even if that means shaming him like fellow Fox News host Sean Hannity reportedly did earlier in the week.

“Gowdy apparently doesn’t get it. He’s actually defending the FBI’s use of spies in its overall investigation into Russian collusion,” he said during the opening of his program Wednesday. “This phony narrative. And frankly, I’ve always liked Trey Gowdy. Shame on Trey Gowdy.”

Shame indeed.
