John Goodman might win the prize for best response to ‘Roseanne’ controversy: ‘I wasn’t gonna get an Emmy anyway’

John Goodman is now on the record on the cancellation of “Roseanne,” following an ill-advised tweet from co-star Roseanne Barr that mocked the appearance of Obama royalty member Valerie Jarrett.

Keeping things in perspective, Goodman effectively said he’s not going to be crying in his beer when confronted at a New Orleans auto repair shop as he was picking up his car, according to Entertainment Tonight.

“I wasn’t gonna get an Emmy anyway,” Goodman said. “I’ve been up there [11] times already, and if I didn’t get one I’m not gonna get one.”

The actor was nominated for 11 Emmys between 1988 and 2010, ET reported. Six of the nominations were for his role on “Roseanne.” Goodman did win an Emmy in 2007 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role on the short-lived series  Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

If he was to receive another award, it should be for having enough common sense to know when to leave well enough alone.

“I would rather say nothing than to cause more trouble,” the 65-year-old actor said when asked about Barr’s controversial tweet.

In times like this, the less you know the better.

“I don’t know anything about it,” Goodman said of the tweet. “I don’t read it.”

The reaction online showed a lot of appreciation for a celebrity who knows when to keep his mouth shut — a rarity these days.
