A heroic mother of a seven-year-old daughter and off-duty Military police officer, Katia da Silva Sastre took down a would-be robber in Suzano Brazil on Saturday morning.
Sastre, her daughter, and several other woman and children were waiting on the sidewalk in front of a local private school for a special Mother’s Day celebration party when the suspect, Elivelton Neves Moreira, approached them waving a gun announcing the robbery.
Quick-thinking Sastre pulled a concealed handgun from her bag and shot the young man 3 times in the chest and leg, sending him to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to UOL.com.
The suspect fired his weapon, a .38 caliber revolver, once into the crowd. Going for a second shot, his gun locked up, giving the 42-year-old mother a chance to pull her weapon and fire on the man.
According to a colleague Lieutenant Andre, Sastre has worked over 20 years as a police officer and “she is calm and she knows that she acted correctly.”
