A public university in Texas teaches men transitioning into women “feminine pitch and feminine qualities” for their voices, according to a Thursday report.

Texas Tech University offers the workshop, which is hosted by speech pathologists Angela Van Sickle and James Dembowski, reported The College Fix.

The group “is for individuals transitioning from male to female or female to male,” Van Sickle told The College Fix. “We focus on voice. We work toward creating a voice that is representative of their gender/sex.”

The speech pathologist said the group has 10 members, four of whom come regularly to the weekly trainings.

Other universities have also offered voice workshops to transgender individuals. McGill University and The College of Saint Rose have offered or currently offer such programs. University of California, Berkeley announced during the summer of 2017 that its student health insurance would cover fertility preservation and hair electrolysis for transgender students, in addition to hormone therapy and counseling.

The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to Texas Tech, as well as the speech pathologists, for comment but received none in time for press.
