Boy Scouts gender-less name may be ‘final step’ for churches. Here’s a taste of how they’ll be demonized.

With the Boy Scouts of America announcing a name change last week to make the 110-year-old organization gender-less — a huge cultural shift which enables girls to join — should churches break away from the group?

Joining Fox News Channel’s Lauren Greene on “Spirited Debate,” Tony Perkins and Christopher Hale debate how churches should react after the Boy Scouts of America announced their name change to Scouts BSA.

“Scores of Boy Scout troops performed in churches across America, mainly because the Scouts values aligned with conservative religious values, vowing to honor God and country,” said Greene, as she set the stage.

Perkins, founder of the Family Research Council, said the name change is part of “an elimination of manhood” going on in America today,

“I think this change of the name is very significant because it tells the story of what scouting was when you go back over a century ago,” he stated. “When the Boy Scouts were started it was about helping boys make that transition into manhood.”

After first allowing homosexual to join and now girls, Perkins said the group should be called “Searching,” because they’re “searching for their identity and who they are.”

He also said this “is probably the final step” for many churches.

“I think you’re gonna see organizations like Trail life USA, that pick up the baton of what the scouts were created to do, are going to go on and flourish in helping those young boys make that important transition,” Perkins added. “Especially now in our culture today when so many young men are growing up without a father.”

Hale, founder of the Francis Project — named after Pope Francis — which advocates for a progressive, inclusive, pro-illegal immigrant agenda, described Perkins’ take as “absurd.”

“I think the idea that we’re going to leave the Scout Movement just because they’re including women, the LGBT community, it’s absurd,” Hale said.

He called it “anti-gospel,” and said women play “a huge role” in boys developing into men.

Greene spoke of how boys are falling behind girls in today’s society and that studies show that young boys learn in their own way, compared to girls.

Perkins spoke of the origins of the Scouts, saying it based on “a recognition that we
needed men who could you know grow up, become true men and could then maybe go into the military and defend our country.

He also agreed that boys learn better when not “distracted,” adding you can’t teach boys to become men when you’re teaching girls at the same time.

“Teaching them to be men, which is one of the great crisis’ of our day, cannot be done when you’re teaching girls and boys the same thing,” Perkins said, before then summing up what’s really at play here.

“What we’re seeing here is an elimination of manhood.”
