President Donald Trump’s rise to power will hit the silver screen in a film called “The Apprentice,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Its writer, Gabe Sherman, is currently a special correspondent for “Vanity Fair” and is best known for his stories covering Fox News, as well as his book “The Loudest Voice in the Room,” which revolved around the network’s founder, Roger Ailes.
The film will be produced by Amy Baer through her production company Gidden Media. Sherman will also serve as an executive producer.
Parts of the film will reportedly revolve around the president’s relationship with members of his inner circle, such as Roy Cohn.
“As a journalist, I’ve reported on Donald Trump for more than fifteen years,” said Sherman in a statement. “I’ve long been fascinated by his origin story as a young builder coming up in the gritty world of 1970s and ’80s New York. This formative period tells us so much about the man who today occupies the Oval Office.”
“The Apprentice” won’t be Sherman’s first credit as a screenwriter — Showtime is currently developing his Ailes biography for Showtime.
“Gabe is an extraordinary storyteller as well as an impeccable journalist,” Baer said. “The timeliness of this subject, combined with Gabe’s professional pedigree and integrity, makes this a rare alignment of talent and subject.”
