Thoman Homan, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, thinks the illegal immigrant caravan attempting to overwhelm the U.S. southern border is an “attack on the sovereignty” of America.
“I think it’s an attack on the sovereignty of this nation,” Homan said on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday. “Look, do I think some of these people have a credible fear case? Do some of these folks, are they escaping fear and percent using? Yes, some are. But I also know that many aren’t. Many are taking advantage of a system with loopholes in it.”
Homan said the so-called refugees are coached on what to say.
“They’re coached what to say,” Homan said. “When they show up in immigration court, if they show up in immigration court, the judges find very few — The last numbers I looked at between 30 and 40 percent actually would have a credible fear. Which means all the rest [are made up].”
Homan understands the allure of America but believes immigrants must follow the law like everyone else.
“I can’t blame anybody for wanting to be a part of the greatest country on Earth,” he concluded. “But there’s a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it. You can’t want to be a part of the greatest country on Earth and not respect its laws. You can’t have it both ways. Not under this president, which I think is the right thing.”
