A 12-year-old Australian boy managed to take a vacation in Bali, Indonesia, after stealing his mom’s credit card, checking into a flight and booking a hotel by himself.

An Australian, given the fake name “Drew” to keep his identity private, skillfully maneuvered a solo vacation to Bali after getting into a fight with his parents, The Guardian reported Sunday. Drew managed to find an airline that allowed the 12-year-old to travel alone, tricked his grandma into giving him his passport, and booked the flight with his mom’s credit card.
Drew took his scooter, telling his parents he was going to school, but instead took it to the train station the Sydney airport. He then managed to skirt authorities where he flew to Perth and then Bali.
“They just asked for my student ID and passport to prove that I’m over 12 and that I’m in secondary school,” Drew told A Current Affair. “It was great because I wanted to go on an adventure.” The boy did document some of his flight by filming the clouds in the sky, according to “A Current Affair” for Nine News.
Upon arriving in Bali, he borrowed a Go Jek bike to get from the airport to the All Seasons Hotel, managed to check in by telling the staff he was waiting for his older sister. The school told his parents that he was missing March 8 and Indonesian police found him March 17, according to CNN. His mother Emma flew out to get her jet-setting son.
“Shocked, disgusted, there’s no emotion to feel what we felt when we found he left overseas,” she told A Current Affair. His mother added that he doesn’t like being told “no.”
Emma added that “there’s a problem” in the Australian system that allowed her 12-year-old son to travel to Indonesia.
